    Post Your Birds (3)

Set up a perch on a pole to give me a better background for birds around the feeder in the backyard. Having a tough time getting something to attract the birds, without feeding pounds and pounds of expensive seed/suet to the squirrels. Finally managed to get a few birds on the mounted branch...

Let's be careful out there folks

Fred, I don't think you have to worry about getting bitten by that guy. Squeezed and swallowed, maybe, but not bitten.

Let's be careful out there folks

I've had a couple days to think about this, and decide how I want to move forward. I have spent a lot of time amongst some of the more dangerous critters in our area for decades. I've been an avid river diver for many years, dealing with gators and moccasins in close quarters. I have been a...

Weekly Challenge May 31 - June 6 "Wildlife"

I don't think anyone here would think twice about you using this picture in a wildlife challenge. I know I didn't.

Wear sunglasses when taking photo shots

Before I went to progressives, I had a pair of glasses I only used at the range. They were just enough power to see the front sight comfortably, which gave me the best sight picture. I kept them in my range bag, so they were always handy when needed. It would be easy enough to do the same with a...

Let's be careful out there folks

If it was a snake, and neither I or the doctor had any other reasonable explanation, I believe it would have to be a very small one. I'm pretty sure if it had been an adult, I would have seen and felt it, and there would have been obvious fang marks. I have read that the small ones can be more...

Let's be careful out there folks

Got up early this morning to go take pictures at the Audubon Garden Swamp. It was overcast and misting rain, but I decided to stick around and try out my homemade rain cape. It was a tad awkward, but worked fine. After I'd been there about an hour I suddenly noticed my left thumb was stiff, and...

    Dead pixels

I shot a few birds at the backyard feeder, and no sign of the offending spot. I got lucky. I remember something about a reference photo option and thought I'd check it out, and then found the pixel mapping near the sensor cleaning option. I suppose the pixel mapping service Nikon offers would...

    Dead pixels

Well, I think I fixed it. There is a submenu under the wrench icon that is Pixel Mapping. I ran that and took a couple test photos. The spot now seems to be gone.:)

    Dead pixels

I would not be surprised if sensor damage becomes a more common issue with mirrorless cameras. Having said that, I have no idea if it was just one of those electronic failure things, or physical damage. If it were physical damage, I would expect to see a larger area affected. I try and be very...

    Dead pixels

I've got my old D3400. It's a bit of a comedown, but gets the job done. Summer is coming, and I won't be getting out shooting as much. I suppose I could dig out one of my old Pentaxes and get a few rolls of Fujifilm. Or not. Fred, I would love one of the Z8s, but I really can't justify $4K on...

    Dead pixels

The one year warranty is up. It actually started around the time the warranty expired, but didn't realize there was an actual problem until the other day, thanks to LR and PS hiding it. I did a little more research and found that Nikon's mid tier service includes remapping sensors. It runs $73...

    Dead pixels

Well, it looks like I have some dead pixels in the sensor on my Z5. They are too small to see unless the image is either cropped or enlarged a good bit. I saw it a while back and used a rocket to clean the sensor. I thought that solved it as I couldn't see after taking a test shot. I appear that...
