Need a quick opinion on a small tripod

Well, we need to leave for our monthly nature photography meeting, so I went ahead and ordered the aluminum. The Pup said she didn't really think the CF was enough of an upgrade to justify spending extra. Everything else seems to be the same on these models, except the material for the legs.

Need a quick opinion on a small tripod

Well, I've pretty much decided this is the tripod to get her, I just need to decide between the aluminum version or the CF version. I'm leaning toward the CF.

Need a quick opinion on a small tripod

I have a larger Benro in aluminum. I really like it, and that lead me to look closely at this one.

Need a quick opinion on a small tripod

I need to replace the Pup's travel tripod. Her old one gave up the ghost, more from being hauled around than actually used. As intimated, she doesn't use one often, but when she needs one.......... I happened to see that B&H has a big sale on right now, and goes off later today. I found a small...

First fruits of my wildflower "field".

Experimenting with a new, to me, style of flash diffuser. I made one of the sconce style out of thin cardboard duct tape and an old T-shirt. I took a handful of shots this evening, and I think I like it better than the little pop up, clip on the lens style, or the small soft box style, both of...

    Name that bug!

OK, perhaps I posted this one too soon. It's an ambush bug. I will leave the thread for others to post critters they are having issues identifying.

    Name that bug!

I sometimes run across insects or spiders that I have a hard time finding on the internet. Not saying they aren't there, just that I can't seem to match up something with what I have taken a picture of. Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread where folks could post a picture of a small...

    AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR

Another option may be the 200-500 F5.6. It is a very sharp lens, IMO, especially for the price point. I have regularly seen it on sale for around $1050. In fact, it is on sale right now for $1059. Unfortunately, it is not a light weight, coming in at 81 oz. It does have VR, and on your crop...

The Pup got me this T-shirt for Father's Day. I love it!

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

And a few more. I'm discovering that the dark central area of the flower does not provide good separation with the dark bees and wasps that they are attracting. I guess I need to plant some lighter colored flowers.

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Lots of insect activity in my backyard wildflower plot. Had a hard time getting any halfway decent shots, though. Ended up settling for a few flower shots.

    Deciding on lens

The 85mm DX lens mentioned above is only 12.5 oz. Of course the 105 is only 26 oz, so I'm a little surprised you find it too heavy. Of course, you may have health issues that preclude heavier equipment. Perhaps it is a matter of balance vs actual weight. A lighter lens will affect the balance...

    Nikon Self Service Repair

I tried to repair an FX mount 105 macro last year. It had stopped focusing, either AF or manually. I had nothing to lose, as it was out of warranty, and repair was more expensive than replacement with a decent used one. I disassembled it as far as I dared and was able to remove a ring that...

Post Your Black and Whites Photos!!

I was looking through some images from the last couple weeks or so. I ran across one that was a variation on an image that I had edited, but had some critical differences. I edited it and came up with this: After looking at it further I decided to try a tighter crop. I am amazed that I...

    The Duck Thread

Well, it looks like the wood duck season is over around here. Bugs won't be happy. They have started molting their breeding plumage.

When the phone is more interesting then your partner

Unfortunately, this has become the norm. A few years ago my daughter and I went to a Japanese steakhouse. At our grill table there was a small group that was celebrating one of the girl's birthday. One of the girls spent the entire meal with her head buried in her phone. If that had been my...

    Auto focus question

The D500 has been one of the go to bodies for wildlife. It has the advantage of being a crop frame, and thus your 200-500 will effectively be a 300-750mm lens. The down side is that it is now out of production, and has a 20 MP. Neither of those should be a deal breaker, as lots of folks take...
