    nikonbill's 2025 images when possible

I have gotten close enough to the great blues that I had to back up to get beyond minimum focus distance of 6 ft.

I'm thinking more like "Stop scaring the fish away, or YOU are gong to be my lunch!".

    Godox V860II-N TTL Flash

What style are you looking at initially? My favorite style is the cone shaped. Remember, the larger the diffuser, the more diffuse the light will be. The bad news for them is that they are not easily made collapsible for easy storage and carrying in the field. Unfortunately, the one I made went...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Got out to the Francis Beidler Forest today. The prothonotary warblers were in bloom. A couple owls showed up as well as a few water snakes. Light levels were really low, forcing very high ISOs, especially earlier in the morning. Topaz will clean them up, but they definitely lose detail.

    Godox V860II-N TTL Flash

I find a small, folding footstool really handy when I'm out shooting macro in the back yard.

Topaz Photo AI 2 Supposedly a major Update

Topaz Photo AI is up to version 3.6 at this time. I have thought about paying for the upgrade from my current 3. something, but have no way of knowing whether they have the tiling issue fixed.

    Godox V860II-N TTL Flash

What diffuser(s) are you using? I have used the small soft box, the small pop up fabric one that slips over the lens, a homemade "cone" and the AK. All seem to work well, but I prefer the cone style the most. The nice thing about the small fabric one is portability. I can slide it into the...

    Godox V860II-N TTL Flash

I have the Godox tt685, which is very similar to the flash you are considering. I believe the main difference is the li-on battery of the 860 vs 4 AA batteries used in the 685. I use mine almost exclusively for macro work using an AK diffuser. I have been very happy with it's performance. The...

Are Trumps tariffs affecting lens prices?

Yep, $1050 has been it's regular, not on sale, price for years. The sale price they had it in March was the lowest price I've seen it. BTW, it's an excellent lens, IMO.

    Newbie question

Remember that with a 2x converter, you are losing 2 full stops of light. That would make it F11. This is likely the reason that the 200-500 is listed in the chart as not AF compatible with this converter. This chart lists only DSLR cameras in exceptions, but I doubt the Z50ii will autofocus with...

A Day With the Dock Dogs

The Pup wanted to travel up to Conway yesterday and take pictures at the Dock Dogs competition. We got up early drove a couple hours and got there just as they were starting. We could have attended the competition they had locally last month at the SouthEast Wildlife Expo, but the crowds there...

File size of images and videos

I can't help with all of the questions, as I don't shoot video. 3. When you shoot in RAW, you get the full raw data from the sensor, so you get the full sized image. While I suppose they could allow you to use cropped image sizes, they may have decided that anyone wanting to shoot in RAW mode...

    Interchanging Lens

All of the "D" series cameras, like D850, D7100 are DSLR bodies, and do not require an adapter to use. The newer "Z" bodies, such as the Z5, Z8 etc, will require the FTZ adapter.
