    New to Panorama

Lightroom/Photoshop is very good. Unfortunately, it is available only by subscription, rent vs buy. The good news is that they are making constant upgrades to the programs and you get upgrades as soon as they are released. The remove tool with generative AI is absolutely amazing. Just paint the...

    New to Panorama

I hope you don't mind. I imported your posted image into Lightroom and gave it a quick edit. Here is what I came up with. Not saying it's the best edit, but just to give an idea. You will probably have more detail to work with using the original file, especially if you shot it in RAW.

    New to Panorama

The detail and color in the sky are nice. You might try masking the sky and increasing the warm yellows and oranges. Then copy and invert the mask and bring up the brightness in the rather dark foreground. I would like to see some more detail in the foliage, and the water.

Possible to use a Tokina 12-24 lens with a Nikon D4S?

Here is a guide to Nikon lens compatibility. Unfortunately, it doesn't cover 3rd party lenses like your Tokina, but it may be useful if you are looking to purchase some lenses for your D4s. Ken Rockwell

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Saw this little guy in my wildflower plot in the back yard this evening. Ran and got my camera, and was surprised he was still there, and let me get quite close to him. I've seen him out there before, so I'm thinking about naming him. Perhaps Hasenpfeffer, or maybe since I'm always photographing...

Possible to use a Tokina 12-24 lens with a Nikon D4S?

Not sure if the D4s does this, but all of the newer Nikon's "force" crop frame when a DX lens is mounted. IOW, the camera will only use about half of the sensor, since a DX lens does not normally cover all of a full frame sensor. And, it won't let you choose using the full frame, knowing you'll...

    Cropping feedback

Thanks to everyone for their input. I do enjoy getting different perspectives. In this case, I think I will go with my initial impressions, with my wife and the Pup's running a not so close second.

    D500 pixel density

The slight edge in detail may be a result of no low pass filter in the D7200 rather than pixel density. My understanding is that lack of a low pass filter will give a small increase in detail, but at the expense of an increase in moire.

    Cropping feedback

I thought about moving the DF to the right and getting it on the righthand thirds line, but It really seemed out of balance to me.

    Cropping feedback

This image spoke to me when I first edited it. I tried a number of different cropping scenarios, and this is what felt the best to me. My wife and the Pup tell me that they think it looks better with a heavier crop. To me it ruins the "mood" of the image. I know, it's my image, my vision for...

    D500 pixel density

Pixel density comparisons (outside of low light performance) are only valid if the sensor size is the same. My Z5 has much lower pixel density than my D3400. Both are 24 MP, one a full frame and one a crop frame. The D3400 has 6.62 MP/cm2 and the Z5 2.83 MP/cm2. IMO, the Z5 has a very, very...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Went out this morning with the Charleston CNPA group to the Clemson Extension Bee Garden. Very hot and humid, but we had a good time. Lots of flowers and plants as well as a small pond to attract lots of insects, arachnids and other critters. Saw some hummingbirds early, but I didn't get a...

Flash vs Available Light for Insects

Here's something a little different. I was out trying to shoot some available light while it was a little overcast. Before I really got started, the full sun came out. Decided to try using the scrim to diffuse the sunlight. This was one of the results. Yes, it's not crisp. That's mostly because...

Upgrade to D5500? Crop vs. Full Frame? Lenses?

In reality, all the major camera manufacturers are rapidly moving away from DSLR format. Something else to think about, a new crop frame, or even full frame (24 MP) camera won't give you better images. They may make it easier, and may suit your shooting style better, but the images are going...
