Anyone here ever shot in Bosque, NM?

I have heard lots of great things about it being a mecca for nature and scenic photography. Bosque is about a 3 hour drive from Springerville, AZ, which is not bad at all. If all goes well, I will work 4 (12 hr) days on, and 3 off. I could drive over there and hike to a camping spot...

    The beast is unleashed!

This is my "backyard engineered" bracket I will take with me to AZ to use for fill flash when shooting wildlife. The Sunpak's alone are very powerful flashes (out to 70' in auto or manual) but with two of them I can add a whole stop to that. I will be getting a couple of "Better Beamers" to go...

    Honest opinions please

This image was one that looked so good through the viewfinder but when the film is developed and proofed it kind of fell short of expectations. This was shot with the F2 and 24mm f/2.8 Nikkor on Tri-X

Another image I found in that box of negatives/slides

This is Pam Shriver at the Dupont Championships at Amelia Island FL in1989 I believe. Taken with the F2S w/ MD-2/MB-1 and the 300mm f/4.5 AIS on a monopod and High Speed Ektachrome film ASA 160. I processed all of my own film (not as hard as you might think, but slide film has more steps than...

I am AZ bound in a few weeks

I am hoping to start in about 2 1/2 weeks at a hospital in Springerville, AZ. It is a small town and a small hospital but I will be working for my old boss there. He is a traveler too but will probably sign on full time. And the best part about it is there are ROADS in and out of this place and...

    Major leagues score!

I have been looking for one of these literally for years. They are as rare as hen's teeth and are usually pretty expensive (>$100). This guy was practically giving this one away for $31 including shipping. It is pretty much immaculate. I almost feel like I stole it from him for that price...

A question for the old timers.

As I was shooting today something came to mind. This question is really for those of us who have spent (or still spend) a lot of time in the darkroom. Although one could ever dispute that programs like Photoshop and Lightroom have given photographers of all skill levels a powerful tool to tweak...

    Lighthouse Lens

I shot this image today inside the lighthouse at NAS Pensacola. The quarters are pretty cramped so I first pulled out the 18mm and when I peered through the viewfinder I heard this voice in my head saying..............NAAAAAAAAAAH! it had a good graphical effect but there was just something...

    Windows updates strikes again

I recently updated my desktop from Win 7 32 bit to 64 bit. When I did, however, I did not disable the auto updates as I am accustomed to doing. MS downloaded a bunch of updates yesterday and bad and entirely unwanted things happened. First, it automatically updated my IE from 10 to 11. Now, my...

Two more from the time machine...........

Fast forward to fall 1977 and my sophomore year at Carolina. I did a lot of shooting for the UNC yearbook but enjoyed doing the football and basketball stuff the most. It was hard to shoot the baseball games and tennis matches because I was either on the field or the courts! Between 2 majors, 2...

Hop into the time machine and let's go back to 1974

I found a big box of old negatives/slides/prints that pretty much went back all the way to the beginning; 1972 for me. There must have been literally a football field's and a half length of negatives and slides in glassine sleeves (I usually did not mount my slides if I was going to print them...

    Tethering software

For those of you who were not aware f it, there is some free tethering software available for Nikon cameras. I have played around with it and it seems to be vey good. Although I shoot in manual essentially 100% of the time, you can even make all kinds of settings changes from the program itself...

    Kudos to KEH

One of my Sunpak 544's (old as dirt "potato mashers") gave up the ghost on Wednesday. It is still a very powerful and flexible flash with auto out to about 75' (100 ASA) and full-1/64 power in manual and the handle is even threaded so you can mount it on a light stand with the standard 1/4"...

    Wyatt Earp

I just watched an episode of "Gunslingers" on the Military Channel profiling Wyatt Earp. In his last years in the 1920's he apparently worked as an unpaid movie consultant in Hollywood. He had a lot of free time so he spent it in the commissary drinking coffee. It was there he met a young stage...

    My website is live again

After over a year. It has been completely redone and I imagine it will be a work in progress for a while until I get it just as I like it and add any images I forgot to add! The URL is the same as it was before. Click here

One of my earliest attempts at portrait photography

I shot this portrait about 30 years ago. I worked a deal with a real estate agency and shot all of their realtors. Not too awfully bad I guess, just a single strobe bounced into a Reflectasol with another light on a hand painted background. Nikon F2 105mm f/2.5 AIS Nikkor and Plus-X film
