Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

UPDATE #2 I have just restarted my PC again after finishing tidying up my PC after all the preceding carry-on, deleting unwanted screen images etc and emptying the trash can and blow me down, contrary to the final sentence in my previous post #15, the camera is now visible in File Manager...

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

UPDATE The problem has been resolved after a tip from Russ Beuker of ControlMyNikon.com, a company that offers camera automation tool software and for whom I had done some beta test reports. When hearing of my problem, he mentioned an issue with a USB driver installed by another camera...

Affinity Photo 2.6 object selection roll out (not beta)

I also use Infinity Photo and what is becoming really concerning for me now is that sooner or later Adobe is going to come along with their big fat cheque book and make the Canva, owners of Affinity software, an offer that can't be refused - and we all know where that will end.

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

Thanks for your input @BF Hammer. I didn't make it clear enough earlier that the reason I tether the camera is not only for the live view on a big screen for focussing, but I use Helicon Remote software to actually control the camera from the PC and the most important aspect is that when focus...

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

My Dell PC is an all-in-one model @Needa so no separate monitor, the old laptop is tucked away in the corner out of the way and I can use my PC normally.

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

Thanks for your comment @Clovishound. Twenty years ago I wouldn't have hesitated, but sadly, age, mobility issues, pension and our present Government's fiscal policies rule that out of the question. Since I made the #8 post I have discovered that my older 'retired' laptop will happily connect...

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

After thirteen days I am still no nearer having a solution to this issue, but I have found a temporary solution - let me explain: I do a lot of close-up and focus-stacking macro work but even after having had bi-lateral cataract surgery in the last twenty years my eyesight (and shaky hands) are...

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

Thanks Needa. apart from two other Windows machines having no problem with the camera, the most frustrating aspect of this is that this PC in question acknowledges the camera with a 'ding' when it's switched on- as the Dell tech confirmed - but then just ignores it! <grrrr>.

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

The last remaining solution I can think of is to do what used to be called a "Repair Install" This copies all the latest Windows files over the top of the existing files - in essence replacing them - without touching any of your programs or data. However, I've still got a few months of my Dell...

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

Not a peep out of Dell! When I'm feeling a bit masochistic, I go through all the advice I have read and received but still the problem persists. I've reloaded more drivers than you can shake a stick at, but now I think it's time to accept that it is just one of (computer) life's little...

    PUP'S 1 K WORDS 2025

I'm not sure what I am looking at here, a home weather station perhaps? It, and its mono brother, are nice images of whatever it is.

Solved: D810 Tethered Shooting and Dell PC problem

I have been happily shooting my D810 tethered to my laptop until today when I decided to use my Dell computer instead - and how quickly things can go awry. When I plug the 810 into my desktop computer, it 'dings' to acknowledge connection however, the camera is not visible in File Explorer and...

    Silversnapper's Happy Snaps

Another test as I get used to my new kit. Using the Sigma 105mm macro lens, this is an 8 shot stack of my late wife's rings.

    Silversnapper's Happy Snaps

I am still getting used to the camera Needa and as this lens was already fitted and as the camera was already on the tripod, I thought 'why not?' It was a good test for both and I'm very pleased with the outcome. I love the Sigma 105 macro lens and I still use it a lot on other makes of camera...

    Advice on suitable lens

Thanks. I'm enjoying using the software, however, I am having a bit of bother trying to 'switch off' the PS menu structure in my head and absorb the Affinity one, which can be very frustrating as there isn't room for both these days, but I will persist.

    Advice on suitable lens

After some ‘wheelin’ an dealin’, horse-trading, stock clearance and assorted other fund raising measures, I am happy to report that a Nikon D810, a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR and a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro have all found a new home with me. Unfortunately it has all arrived at a...
