January 2025 Monthly Assignment: Wood and/or Metal

Did you know that in astronomy, the word metal can be used to refer to any matter that is not hydrogen or helium? So, in this picture, the only thing visible that is not metal, by that definition, is the Sun. Of course, even by the more usual definition, the Jeep that appears in this picture is mostly metal, along with the barbed and mesh wire of the fences to either side, and the overhead power lines, and some of the content of the trash piles in the distant background. Of course, there are the wooden fence posts and utility poles, as well as that black pile which is of some sort of ground wood material.

With wood and metal fences to either side, this, I believe, is the very mud puddle in which my first Jeep sank, two months ago. Those may be my tire tracks leading into the puddle. The successor to that Jeep appears in the distant background. My second Jeep is somewhat older more experienced, and apparently quite a bit wiser than its predecessor was. It was reluctant to cross the first significant mud puddle that it encountered from each direction, coming here, and made me cover the rest of the way on foot; its predecessor would have barged ahead, and even if it remembered its previous experience with this puddle, might still have been foolhardy enough to try again to cross it.
