wendy, seeing the rubble and the compactor i would assume that some landfill work had taken place in the area. If the shrubs are sagebrush it much have been sometime ago.

You are right, the shrubs are sagebrush and there have been trails and dirt roads excavated in the past.

nikonpup is correct that it is a soil compacter, but the common name in construction is a "Sheep's Foot Roller" They come in various configurations. Some are towed, like this one and some are part of the tractor equipment itself. The "Spikes" also come in different shapes and sizes.

Thanks Walt, I knew that my Nikonite friends would help me out with the machine's identification. It sounds like you have had a close relationship with soil compacter's to know those details. Yes, I thought that the "Spikes" were the cool part of the photo.

Week 30/52 Theme: Crooked. This is a tree that is growing up in a canyon. The winds always blow down the canyon and many of the trees are growing crooked.

This is an old covered wagon filled with flowers. We went to "This is the Place" and the wagon was in the middle of the dirt road, surrounded by houses built in the 1800's.

This fence is in the High Country of The Uintah Mountains, about 7000+ feet above sea level. I went for a hike and found some nice flowers too that I posted on my Georgia O'keeffe thread. We spent 4 days in the mountains and it was very regenerating. With no cell service, no wifi, no electricity, and only the food and water that we brought with us, I realized how much those things take up a great deal of my life. Being in the wilderness is liberating however, it is also very primitive and BEAUTIFUL! Everywhere I looked there was a fabulous photo opportunity. And, Yes, that is the true color of the grass.

This shot was from my hike in the Uintah Mountains. I just wanted you to see a place in the world that most people will never see, because it is so remote.

On my one trip thru the Unitas mountains I sensed that it is indeed a special place. So glad to hear that you had such a great trip. We all need a place to renew ourselves. Some beautiful images that you have brought back with you.

Thanks Ron, Yes, it is a really special place. I have lots and lots more shots that are fabulous. You can't turn around up there without a beautiful picturesque shot looking you in the face. It may take me a year to get all of these shots processed. I filled up 4 16GB SD cards and 2 8 GB SD cards, Whew!! This shot was so perfect that it was almost SOOC. I still can't believe that I could get such a magical shot of nature.

I told my husband that we couldn't go home from the mountains until I got a shot of a moose. We found this guy that we named, "Thor" in a meadow at the golden hour. He was just grazing and drinking water. This is a great pose of Thor, because he was looking at me and his mouth looks like he is trying to tell me something. What do you think he is trying to say? Thor is such a majestic animal.
