Well I just bought a Nikon D700! My beloved wife wasn't thrilled, but gave in reluctantly. Just kidding! Lol :)
It has low actuations around 24k, and I'm very excited to complete my camera combo! Lol :D

I guess now I'll have to buy a mb-d10 battery grip and a L bracket when I can. But I'll use one off of one of my D300 Nikon's until I manage to buy them! :D

Why not sell one of your D300 bodies? With the D700, I highly doubt you will make use of 2 D300 bodies. And the money can then be applied towards something.

Congratulations, Bill. Enjoy! :)

Kind of campy but this is a pretty good demonstration.

I have a question on something Matt said. When he initially did the test, the #1 was in sharper focus than any other number--so it focused in front of where it should have. Yet he said the lens was back-focusing. Is that correct? I would have said the lens was front-focusing. Would someone please explain?

I read in a book or magazine that something like this is a good thing to carry in your Bag.. I picked this up at Wal-Mart for $5.00..It is one of those Holiday gifts that the kids give to their Dad's and it serves 2 purposes..1) the Father loves it because his kids gave it to him and 2) It fulfills mans basic need because it is Bright and Shiny !!!! :D:D

I like 'em blue - my portable backup drives.
The big one is a Lacie 3T but too big to carry about.
The lighter blue one is a 300 GB - which was big in it's day, but now too small for my photography collection.
The dark blue one on top is my latest purchase - a Seagate "Slim" 2T backup drive.
Only slightly slimmer than the 300 GB version that's a few years old now.
So there are three sitting on top of my rig.
Inside there are two standard hard drives (2T & 3T) plus two SSD drives for programs.
But there is still room for more drives, ... how many is too many?

Finally got my new monitor set up so I shot a quick picture of it with my professional cell phone camera (The cell phone info sheet said it was a professional camera so it must be true!).

Dell UltraSharp Professional U2413 Wide Gamut display. I like the fact it comes calibrated from the factory with calibration sheet for both sRGB and Adobe RGB. You can easily toggle between the two settings or any of the others. What I see right off the bat is a creaminess to the display. It's not course or granular as regular computer displays. It really makes great photos look great and makes blaringly obvious details we wouldn't quite want to show. For example, looking through photos of ladies posing, particularly beachwear when they weren't as warm as the surroundings would lead you to believe, veining and mottling of the cold skin shows up really well - something to soften.

The stand is very nice and usable for getting the monitor just the way you want it. The monitor stand allows the display to rotate for portrait viewing.

In addition to everything else, you can feel the heft of this monitor versus my other 24" inch generic monitors. Huge difference in weight.

Next up, put the other 24" display to the right of my new one.

And since I was in the buying mood - and since Corel is running their "Shop Like's Already Black Friday" sale I bite the bullet and upgraded my photo-software of choice from Corel Paintshop Pro V 6 to V7.

corel paintship proX7.JPG

Price reduced to $36 (upgrade - CDN$)

But that's not all act before (forget when) and they throw in Aftershot 2.0 (Corel's version of Lightroom).

Corel Aftershot 2.JPG

Been thinking of buying that one but hey, if they are giving it away as part of their early Black Friday sale, I'm biting.

But wait, that's not all

They throw in Corel's WinZip. Seems Corel bought that program a while back - the purchased version (or in this case given away version) has apparently lots of extra features not in the free one out there everyone downloads. We'll see. It's free who is complaining.

But WAIT that's not all ...

There are a bunch of plug ins and extra's I've yet to explore. Including one called KPC and "Auto FX Custom Variety Pack" and some other plug ins and scripts.

But wait - that's not all, we want (need?) your business so badly we'll give you a $30 coupon for a purchase made between Dec 14 and Jan 15th - ... been eyeing their video editing software lets see what deals come up on that in the new year (but usually you cannot combine that deal with a coupon - oh well I'll look).

But wait ... no, that's it.

I did pay extra to have the boxed package sent to me - because I like to line my bookcase with boxed sets.
