Viewing lots and lots of raw files..

I use LR4 and I now need a program that will allow viewing of all the files on my card. The problem with importing into LR is that the pictures preview gets grainy when enlarged. I just want to be able to decipher which pictures are the best/in focus/sharpest so that I can then import them into LR and work on them more.

Does anyone know of a program that will do this? I own Adobe PS, Bridge, LR, etc, just don't find that any of these actually let you preview at a decent resolution/size. I might be missing something however...

Thanks!

Are you shooting in RAW or Jpeg Fine????

LR's displays Jpeg... but first, if you import only RAW, it has to convert the RAW to jpegs... It's much faster if you only import JPEGs (it doesn't have to do the conversions)... Additionally, you can increase the size of images in the Library multiple image view large enough that you can see whether the focus meets your criteria... and flag either the ones you want to keep or discard...

if you have windows, let windows import your files. Viewing size is good, almost full screen, it can be adjusted larger if needed. You can delete pictures not wanted and then save or copy to other programs.

I think what you're asking for is the Windows codec so that you can see the thumbnails version of the images, right? If so, here's the link to Nikon's NEF codec for Windows - HERE

Forgot to mention i'm not a microsoft user. And I shoot RAW. Preview works swell, it's just a little laggy in loading the photos. I guess I might need a faster machine as this one is just a smidge outdated at this point..

Are you running the 64-bit version of LR4? This will speed up the program a bit.

The best solution for this situation IMHO is to be a little patient on import and have LR4 render a 1:1 Preview. (Look at the top right of the Import dialog under File Handling to set the 1:1 Preview.)

Yea, I'm running it on BSD Unix (Mac OS) so its full 64 bit architecture. I'll check out that program you cited, it seems awesome, thank you!
