Welcome to Nikonites. I never use filters so I can't offer any good suggestions based on experience. I used to work in a camera store when I was working my way through University and always considered them as putting bad glass over great optics.

I am sure that has changed over the years.

^^ Thanks for the welcome Phtowyzard !
TBH, I haven't bought any filters yet, but while shooting the sky yesterday, I was imagining the shot to be a tad better had there been some UV blockage. Plus from what I read, polarizers give some great contrast, specially to landscape photos.
Again, haven't tried yet, but wanna do in the coming months. Will also be posting pics with and without filters. :)

You are very welcomed. I look forward to seeing your filtered images. I have been toying with getting a polarizer. Maybe at the next trade show, if there are a specials on filters.

External HDD crashed. Fell down from a height of 1 feet and now isn't turning on. No spinning. Not detectable in any of the PCs I tried.
600 GBs of data gone in a flash. Photos, vids, music, movies :(:(

Sorry to hear that. Always have a backup plan. I hope that data can be still recovered.

I had a couple of incidents with my earlier drive, a Transcend, but it never failed on me. Thing was so rugged ! But upgraded last year and got a Seagate. Was very very careful with it but accidentally it fell down yesterday. I didn't bother much as the drive was unplugged and the falling height was pretty low. But then I tried turning it on today and BAM !
Anyway, lesson learned the hard way.
Will try taking it to Stellar Recovery in Delhi. Let's see what they ca salvage and at what cost. :(

If you get a good quality filter made from optical glass, there will be no problems, I don't use a lot of filters, mainly ND grads and a polarizer, once you've used one, you won't want to leave it off your lens.
