Finally got a new travel tripod. The Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 055 Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod So far it looks like it will do quite well with the new Gimbal. Will go out in the next few days with it and the D750 with the Tamron 150-600 and see how it does with birds.

Cell phone photos is the best I can do. The favorite wife does not like me touching her D7100. And when I brought the new Manfrotto home this afternoon she asked if it were lighter than the one I have been using I told her yes. She then asked it she was going to get to use it. She got a big no on that one.

I have that same backpack in black with the green trim and I absolutely LOVE it! It holds everything I have except my Sigma 150-600!!! Yes, it does get a little heavy, but it is manageable and it stays on you around your waist and you can open it and get your lenses and camera out without taking it off!!! It is such an awesome bag!!!

Nikon D750, Nikon D800, Nikon 16-35 f/4, Nikon 50mm 1.8, Nikon 70-300
Sigma 24-70 f/2.8, Sigma 105mm f2.8
Sigma 150-600 C
Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 Di VC USD

Finally got a new travel tripod. The Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 055 Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod S...

Funny, but I looked at one of these today. It seemed like a good one to buy, and I considered it for a while until I saw the two Nikon AF-S D 500 mm lenses that were also for sale. I would have liked to take one of them, but after paying my property taxes and buying a new car for my wife in the last week, I really can't even afford to buy a new memory card. :(

Now that I think about it, though, I need to find a baby jogger so that I can convert it into a gear carrier before the M&G at CBB in February.

Just played with mine a little but so far I am very happy with it. Lighter and shorter than my Dolica. Ordered a strap for it that will be in tomorrow so easier to carry. I plan on trying to use it and my Gimbal on the M&G in CBB next month. I think it will up my quality a bit. At least I think it will.

Beike BK-45 Gimbal. Very inexpensive but so far it works great and the balance for my set up is perfect. It moves easy and stays where you leave it without tightening down any of the locks. Very smooth movement is every direction.

I have the same Gimbal head. I like it. I am able to get it balanced and leave it unlocked as well without tightening it down. It stays in place when I lock it down as well. I just lock it down and put it on my shoulder to walk... of my friend carries it for me. I was really worried about doing that, but it works fine.

I have been using a Tripod Strap on my other tripod and it make it very easy to carry the tripod. I just bought one for this tripod and will see how it works for carrying the tripod with the bimbal and D750 with the 150-600 on it. I am hoping it makes it a little easier to haul.

I have not used a strap. I need to look into that. Let me know how well you like it.

Well I was convinced that if I was serious about learning lighting then I needed a good light meter.

Ordered one from "The Camera Store" in Calgary and it arrived in today's post.

Now - to learn how to use it.
I see myself spending some quality YouTube Learning time.

I've got one of that very model, or very similar to it. Last year at a shoot, it was more accurate than one that another pro had which cost him nearly twice as much. Good luck with it! It will be worth learning how to use it!!

Keep me away from Craigslist for a while please before my luck or money runs out.

I love a bargain and over the past few months I've spent a little under $850USD for the following (all on Craigslist within 40 miles of home and bought from normal people or photographers with a reason to sell - no shady deals for me):

D100 w/ Nikon 18-105 VR w/extra memory cards and batteries/chargers

Sigma 105 macro with battery/ac powered medical ring light - looks to be an early lens with smaller filter ring than I find by googling.

D300s w/18-55 VR and grip

Nikon 35 1.8G

And the deal of the century yesterday ($500) - Nikon 1 J5 kit w/10-100 f4-j5.6 (new in box, with warranty cards, never been out of the box ! - owner won it in a contest which means this was not a perfect deal: warranty probably will not work due to lack of store sales receipt)

The D300s has about 25K clicks but everything else looks and works like new.

I've only passed on a couple other deals due to beat up/overpriced gear. There's lots of overpriced stuff on Craigslist but if you watch the ads that stay up for a few weeks, posted with price decreases, they usually get tired of trying to sell the stuff and will take a low ball offer.

I'm well experienced with and enjoy my old gear but the Nikon 1 J5 has my mind completely blown just studying it and fiddling with it without shooting any serious pictures yet.

Looks like I'll be able to net at least $500 on my no longer interesting photo and electronic stuff that's going on ebay this week. Spring cleaning is around the corner and I'm trying to enforce a 'not used in the last year' then off it goes to ebay or charity. It will be a lot of stuff.

If the J5 is as much fun as it looks I'll probably buy the somewhat expensive FT-1 lens adapter for my F mount lenses.
Will I get kicked off the forum for using a J5?

I know that feeling of benefitting from 'one man's junk another man's treasure' - picked up a few from our local version of buy and sell on line. (No Craig or Kijiji in these parts).

A J5 is Nikon so you should be safe - now if that was a Sony mirrorless or some other 'off brand' well then maybe eyebrows would be raised.
Just bought a J5 with the 10-30mm for the office (BTW paid $550 new from the local camera shop). You may just want to watch for that kit lens - maybe someone poor sod bought a Nikon mirrorless and broke the camera but the lens is fine.

As for warranty - why not drop Nikon an email saying the camera is new - won as a prize and now 'passed onto" you and see if they will register it for warranty. Can't hurt to ask.

After getting some lackluster photos due to the CP filter on my 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens, I decided to replace the filter. With the old CP filter, the greens were turning an ugly yellow/green which was difficult to correct during editing. So this Hoya HD2 CP Filter just arrived today. Hope to get out soon to test it. I know Hoya has an HD3 CP filter, but this one was significantly less in cost.
