Not as many trees to contend with in the flatlands of NW Ohio Sandpatch.

Saw this local in Bellevue Ohio pulling some cars with auto parts racks. What caught my eye was the headlight. It has LEDs for lights. Has anyone else noticed locomotives with these? First one I've noticed.

Interesting, hadn't noticed. Wouldn't think there would be much power savings relative to what the drives use. Maybe the longevity of the bulbs is the reason.

What made me notice is how bright they were. This guy was sitting a 1/4 mile or so away when I noticed how bright & white the light was. I'm not sure if the power saved makes a difference either but you never know. I do know they will last longer & being more visibility is always better.

Interesting -- I've never seen such a thing before. It'll be interesting to see if the LED headlights stay clear of ice and snow. Traditional incandescent headlights produce high heat, so keep themselves clear.

True about LEDs being a cold light. Truckers complained about how snow would build up on them in the winter.

From an old slide scan taken July 1994, NS blasts through Simpson, SC with at least eight locomotives. Southern Railway whistle posts are an unmistakable icon of a fine road.

If you find your shot of the Flying Scotsman, please post it. I own a book given to me when I was very young that featured a chapter on the Flying Scotsman, and the beauty of the locomotive and train have been stuck in a corner of my mind ever since.
