New strap arrived yesterday. I like it. I just wish it had more tripod functionality.

View attachment 173491

I wrote to BR and told them I would like a fastener with a tripod receiver hole in the bottom, so I could remove my camera and put it on ANY tripod, or else have a Peak Design style plate with a carabiner hole and matching piece that could fit on to ANY tripod. BR said:

"...We are currently working on our own quick release plate solution that would work with our FRT1 and is Arca Swiss compatible. It does not have a release date yet but should be within six months.

If you are using a tripod that isn’t compatible with the Arca Swiss system the only solution would be a third party plate called the M Plate Pro. It has a separate place for our FastenR to connect. You would need to attach the M Plate to your camera and your unique quick release plate directly to the M Plate. This would be two plates on your camera..."
Nice setup right there, love that black FE2.

I was using the cotton carrier mounting plate when I was using my D40 with the BR strap.

Might be helpful for you also.

Another option is to link your BR strap to the camera strap lug on the body and keep the tripod mount free for tripod usage.

I was thinking of doing that when I got this in the mail, because I don't like tying up the mount. I just haven't looked at the Curve yet to see how I would modify it.

I mentioned this earlier also:

I haven't bought a decent strap yet, but I'm seriously considering the BlackRapid RS-7.

I'm also interested in the FastFire strap. The difference is that the FastFire connects to the lanyard point on the upper right side, under the shutter release, instead of the tripod receiver hole. I like that idea better, but I'd have to try both to know for sure. The FastFire is $55, and the BlackRapid is $62 on eBay.

I would still like to buy the FastFire. With a hobby like this, you have to have options; like having 3 or 4 camera bags for different types of excursions.

I hear ya. I setup a film bag with a new black Timbuk2 messenger (cheap on ebay).
Setup with a field notes book, pen, film & batteries. It's a grab and go bag, just need to pick a camera to take that day :)

I also have a 5.11 sling bag that I bought with a Tenba BYOB 9 insert (I also use the insert in the messenger bag mentioned above).

I am using Lance Camera and wrist straps on my film cameras.

Nice and covert :)

Just added some more gear to go with my D700 aquisition of 3 weekends ago. I'll get pictures of it soon, but here's a list:

Nikkor AF 24-85mm f/2.8-4 D Lens w/original hood

Nikkor AF 50 f/1.8 D Lens

Pelican 1520 Convertable(their spelling) carry bag.

The lenses are in excellent shape, appear to have been well cared for, bag has signs of use, but not abuse. This is the problem with going to the local(ish) camera store with money in your pocket. :D

Just ordered a GoPro Hero, usually £94 but I only paid £46. I had £24 of Tesco vouchers that I didn't know about and they counted for double on this product so £48 off!

It's only the basic model, 5MP stills but still shoots 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 60fps so should be fun to use on upcoming snorkelling and diving trips and my holiday in Sept.

They're fun cameras. I really like playing with mine. My only issue is that I feel like I don't do anything extreme enough to record. :)

Here is a video I took recently of me driving an electric go-kart... (It takes off 30-45 seconds in.) https://youtu.be/0a7OPN8mZ5w

I know what you mean. I love karting so I will have to do that with it. I quite like paintballing too. I'll mostly use in snorkelling and we're doing thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXNE-HFn5hc in October on holiday so it'll be good to have then.

Oh, that's very cool! I've never seen something like that before. (Well, aside from the ice luge in the Olympics.)

The one and only time we went snorkeling, in 2010, we bought two of the waterproof film one-time-use cameras. They worked okay, but I would've loved to have a GoPro instead. GoPros are expensive (there was no $100 model at the time), and housings for our cameras were almost as expensive as the GoPros.

Of course, it's kind of a moot point for me: I wear glasses and have a pretty strong prescription, so to me snorkeling is just looking at blurry things in water. To take pictures, I just held the camera at arms length underwater and aimed randomly.

When we went snorkelling last year we took 2 of those cameras as well. I wasn't very impressed, hence wanting to get a GoPro or something similar. At £46 it costs less than 5 of those one time only cameras so well worth it, I got lucky with the price though.

Yeah, definitely - if you go more than a few times, it'll pay for itself, and you can do a bunch of other cool things with it. I haven't gotten around to getting a fisheye lens for the D7000, partly because the GoPro does so well. It's small enough you can put it in your pocket or regular camera bag to carry around, and the Wifi control lets you do some interesting shots. I took one of my wife and I at a picnic table that way - we were across from each other at the middle of the table, and I put it at the end of the table and fired it... it's a fun shot of us.

So how is it? I thought about getting one for Mrs Blacktop.

Seems to do a fine job for what it is. Essentially a compact digital but instead of basic onboard camera software, it runs on Android OS. It has some sort of image stabilization that seems to work right well. Here's one shot just playing around at full zoom handheld.

ETA: It has a 1/2.3 sensor so the 4.1-86.1mm lens is like a 23-486mm on FX.

A D7100, a Nikkor 35mm f2 and a Nikkor 18-140mm, are what I traded for or am buying recently from my good buddy @Blacktop! ! I have to admit the D7100 has turned out to be a pretty sweet little camera, and hopefully it will give me the reach needed at times I need it without upgrading my big zoom lens! :D
