cotton carrier

Does anyone have any experience with this system? Was out today with the big lens and I sure could have used something like this as it was a bit awkward changing lenses and just working it together.

love my cotton carrier. Best camera accessary i have bought. I carry 2 cameras with no neck or shoulder strain. Cameras are very secure,
no flopping around as you move. My hands are free for others tasks. Just a great product. Visit their web site and watch the videos.

I use the black rapid system myself. Its a life saver when carrying the D800 with the Sigma 70-200.

I have looked at the Black Rapid System and I am preferring one that does NOT attach via tripod socket.. I am not liking having to switch in and out to use the tripod...

Gonna get something but have not decided yet...

Black rapid have a connector which attaches to your tripod plate. That way you can simply unclip the camera from your strap and dock it straight onto the tripod.

With the black rapid system how does secure the camera to your body and stop the camera from swinging and bumping into things when you are leaning over? With the tripod mount do you need a special adapter for your tripod or mono pod or do you need a special pod for this strap?

I use the Black Rapid Sport,i have got round the problem of having my tripod quick release on the camera as well by using the L-Plate from Q-Strap (Search Q-Strap and you will find it) the L plate screws into tripod socket and then QR from tripod screws into that,i also have a short safety strap (Carabina Keyring) back to the BR strap buckle in case any fixing fails, pretty sure they won't as i treat them fairly hard when we are out walking with the dogs,Have attached a couple of photos below, sorry about quality, wifes point and shoot, the whole lot feels so comfortable when out and very easy to use.

Yea my old mono pod has no quick release neither does my old tripod so if I get one of the systems I have to figure something out for those units too. come to think of it my old Cullmunn mono pod use to have a quick release but I think the attachments were stolen with all my gear years ago when someone broke into my car while I was on vacation. they got everything in one bag but missed the pod. I stuck a standard swivel head on the end of the pole and I will have to look into finding a quick release that will work. Funny I had forgotten all about that till now.

my d5100 with c.c. Mount and manfrotto quick release. C.c. Mount has 1/4 thread for a monopod head. DSC_1563.JPGDSC_1564.JPG

The black rapid has a couple clips along the strap which help to anchor the camera behind your hip. It's not as heavy duty as the CC however for those of us who are more 'jolly' around the waist, it may be more suitable. :D

I don't have the tripod mount adaptor but from memory it is compatible with the manfrodo plates. Their website has videos demonstrating all the accessories. I looked at this before deciding on the purchase.

I thought that I already left a message here. Somehow it didn't show up. Oh well anyways I did get the cotton carrier kit with the two camera grips and chest and hip clips. Looked at the black but with my big lens it just wouldn't work hiking. I like to have the camera ready just in case in those situations. The CC does take some getting use to and yes if you have a larger chest it takes some trial and error getting it set up just right and it has to be adjusted depending what you wear, but with those minor things it is great once it is set all up. It comes with two safety straps that will not let a 80-200 get even close to the ground if dropped (nice added accessory) as is the extra Velcro chest strap to keep the lens tight to your body. ( another added plus for hiking in the back country or skiing, cycling...) I just found it is great to have my hands free and not worry about a swinging lens when climb trails and I am still able to put my hands in my pockets in the colder weather. :tennis: big thumbs up on this accessory in my opinion.

The only thing with the cotton carrier that I can see "might" be an issue is that the plate for the QR is off center. for many that might not be an issue but for those that shoot pano it could be.

I don't have the QR as of yet. I am trying to find a replacement head for my old Cullmenn mono pod ( really like that pod). I have been told that it was designed around the Arca Swiss head, but I don't see how using any other head wouldn't work just as well.

I use a Black Rapid RS Sport 2 strap. I also found it to be an issue when going from the strap to a tripod.

While the tripod I have does not allow me to take advantage of the FastenR tripod fastener , I did find a useful video on Youtube that mentioned the Cotton Carrier Universal Hubless Adapter Plate.

I am using this setup now on my D40 with great success!

I used my Black Rapid strap every day on a recent trip to Disney World. I had no issues on rides or with damage to my gear. Perfect solution for me.

Since I originally posted this my gear has grown. The battery grip came in and I found a tripod with good weight and stability that has the arca swiss head and a that works great with the Cotton carrier. Of course now with the grip the camera sits a little different with the cotton carrier and I am looking at making a pad that the lens can rest on while in the carrier. I did also find that if I was looking at a sling type of carrier I like the Sun sniper steel Sun Sniper Alternative Camera Strap Review | Shutter Photo Magazine more for security in crowds when traveling. Just added insurance.

Looks like a decent strap, first I've seen that model.

You bring up an interesting topic, while I was searching for a sling strap alternative online, I saw very few mentions of security. While the Sun Sniper has a steel alternative and Black Rapid offers their PROTECTR, has anyone ever had someone attempt to steal their gear while it's around their neck?
