What is Lawrence up to - 2015?

Gotta brag a bit.

Last night I was awarded the JW Welch floating trophy (it doesn't float though - I tried it) for the best floral image for the year at my local photography club.

What a surprise that was as I only entered to keep the numbers up - never thinking my photo would win. After all the main attraction is the little wasp on it and not the flower.

I was having a good old look at the trophy last night and see that it has been going since 1968!

Here is the photo which I think was pushing the envelope a bit in terms of criteria.

Indeed, nice shot.

I joined a photo club here, but they booted me out -- said I was either too drunk or not drunk enough; can't remember.

Righto I said I wanted to improve my macro during August and I thought I would get a jump start.
Made myself a little diffuser yesterday and took it out for a few shots a couple of minutes ago.
This is the first one off the production line. He was real small and I was lucky to even spot him.

You should be happy with that shot Lawrence, the diffused lighting looks good.
You are off to a good start, even though it's not August yet ;)

Congrats on the award for the flower pic.

Congratulations!
Looks like you're leaving everyone in the dust. That is a very nice shot. Have you posted it before here?

Had a bit of fun at the cathedral tonight.

The main entrance was very bright so this is two photos combined to even out the exposure.
I used two off-camera flashes to light up the stairs leading to the front door.
I should probably have straightened it but only thought about that afterward. Lesson learned.

My admiration for the great macro shooters just keeps going up.
But I am determined to get as close to you guys as I can on this.

This one taken this morning - a fly sitting on a wheelie (rubbish) bin. The bright yellow almost makes it look like I have used a false background but this is the real deal.

This one taken this morning - a fly sitting on a wheelie (rubbish) bin. The original bright yellow made it look like I had used a false background so I toned the yellow right down to soften it.

Now this one I am very, very happy with for a number of reasons - one of which is it was handheld.

I'm going to have to start learning the names of insects - I cant have 793682 "unknown insect.jpg" files
