Wake up Nikonites! Where is the chatter/buzz on this? You Nikon Fx shooters should be chomping at the bit!! I know I would be excited if I hadn't changed systems!

I didn't know one was imminent. I saw something about a patent filed for last year but not much else. Any links for it?

What does one do with that focal range? It's not wide enough for UWA landscaping, I dont see it as a walk about lens since the zoom range is pretty tight, and it's not long enough get a close up of a grizzly bear at ten feet....(i would be utilizing a yawning smiley right now if we had one.)

You could, of course, zoom in on the grizzly with your feet and move up to 5 foot. That could be exciting. Think Jerimah Johnson.

Not even remotely on my radar at the price it will likely command....happy with my 35-70 AF D F/2.8 and would like to add the 16-35 VR F/4....

More on my radar would be the new 300 AF VR F/4 tho the old non VR version is my more likely next target....

My lens lust in F mount is nearing completion and a 24-70 is a no thanks.....

I think it would be great if Nikon moved their stabilization to the camera instead of the lenses ala Sony.

Then they could make lenses that aren't as big as Christmas Salamis.

Rick - the current lens is my most used lens followed by the 70-200mm f2.8 lens. With that said, I have been using my lens for more than six years now and it works just fine without the VR based on how I use it with event type photography. It is a superb lens optically and I'm sure Nikon might have improved it a little more.

With that said, I currently have no intentions in up grading my lens since I have very little time at the moment when it comes to photography. Upgrading to the potential new lens will yield very little productivity and improvement. So the short answer is No for me which is unusual when it comes to lenses.

I could be interested in this if it is true as I still do not have a 24-70 and it would be an ideal partner with my 70-200. Do I need it? Probably not would I use it? Yes most likely.

Hmmm, I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Tamron 24-70, but this may change things. Will have to wait now and see how much they want for it.

I would still like to know what you FF guys shoot with that focal range.
Is it like the 18-55 of the DX world?

Yup, it's pretty much the same as the 18-55, which I used to use as a walkabout lens on the crop sensor. On the FF now I have the 24-85, but I'm definitely lusting after the f/2.8

Yes, it's like an 18-55 only lots better. In my DX only days, I had the 17-55 2.8 and when I added FX, I added the 24-70 (which I didn't like on my D7000). I use it mainly for events and it's the default lens on my D600.

I just got the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 it has VC which is the same as VR. Works great and is way cheaper than the current Nikon version.See the thread here on Nikonites.

Yeah, I saw that too. I'm pretty sure I'll just get the Tamron, but no rush. I'm positive the new Nikon with VR will be priced a few hundred dollars more than the current version, so no thanks. I'm more curious as to what Sigma will ever bring to the table.

PS-I've noticed your sig only contains the EM-1 and V2, and was wondering about that. So, you no longer have your Nikon gear? Kind of surprising to me as I came from Oly & wouldn't go back unless they start making bodies with larger sensors. Loved the system, loved the lenses. Tried the mirrorless via the EM-5 and again, really like the body. I just couldn't push any of my shots in post the way I can with the D600. I would always get a bizarre mottled texture on skin, backgrounds, etc. I'm a patient guy, but my biggest peeve with Oly dealt with them announcing a product, then waiting an eternity for that product to actually hit the shelves. Anyway, it is a great system overall, with stellar lenses and REAL weathersealing. And at least their mirrorless stuff is lighter (my E-3 was larger and heavier than the D600). Enjoy!

I went on a long hike with my Nikon Fx gear and decided to downsize. The new oly pro series glass is fantastic. I'm very happy with the EM1 but looking forward to the next generation sensor. I'm very pleased with prints up to 16x24. The new EM 5 is capable of 64 mp raw files by moving the sensor (static images with tripod). The technology is making these m4/3 sensors very capable. I kept the N1 for kayaking/casual shooting.
