Making D600 colors look like Canon colors.

Yes. I'm not going to make this decision lightly and it'll be easier for me to stick to Nikon as I'm so comfortable with all the controls. I'm quite certain I'm switching away from D600, however. 5D3, D750, or D810.

You mention that you have switched several times in the past - from Canon to Nikon, bought a lens, sold a lens, repurchased the same. Do you find yourself fretting over the technology so much that it is preventing you from seeing the beauty of your craft? Your photos are really quite wonderful - they express the joy and love shared by the couples you shoot. I have seen your photos before in several places and they are really quite impressive. I cannot advise you on what system to shoot, which lenses to purchase; however, i would not hesitate for an instant to hire you if i needed someone to shoot a wedding. Your equipment must be good, because your talent shows! Just my thinking, anyway.

I really appreciate that. As much as I worry about gear, I take far greater effort in getting candids and real expressions out of people :) I am much less worried about switching cameras right now and am focusing on getting more clients (my website needs a lot of work for example). As for switches from Canon to Nikon, it was an upgrade to a full frame and I happened to choose the D600 over the 6D at the time. I happen to believe it was Nikon's control layout that made me so comfortable and quick with using full manual mode. I am very hesitant to switch to Canon for the controls alone. I know I'll eventually move away from the D600 because I would like a better autofocus system.

A couple of my favorite photographers, Jeff Newsom (canon) and Sam Hurd (nikon), both have a couple recent galleries in which the asian couples' skin is quite orange. While I feel that the couple would have possibly liked a less orangy skin, I know they are still amazing photos because of the expressions, composition, and feel.

I am considering getting the Xrite ColorChecker which I think will greatly help me get consistent results in different lighting condiitons--which has been what takes me the most amount of time to correct. I have a feeling this could easily save me several hundred hours of processing in my lifetime :)

It's funny Jeff Newsom makes his photos look as if they were shot with Nikon almost.... :) If you haven't heard of these two photographers--their work is truly spectacular and I am striving for my work to look as good someday :) www.jeffnewsom.com / Washington DC Wedding Photographer Sam Hurd

I noticed too the auto-WB of the D750 is pretty good. When I switch WB from "as shot" to "auto" in LR, the differences are often very minimal. Only when it is clouded outside I occasionally see more drastic changes.

Most shots I now simply use the D750 WB. Although hardly a comparison, with the D3300 auto-WB was a whole different thing.

Just received my D750 and cannot be happier. The colors are soooo much more neutral and the WB is sooo much more accurate. I was THIS close to switching to 5D3 until I read this review: Nikon D750 Review - Pro Wedding Photographer Review -Shotkit

Also just launched my new website--check it out! Justin Lee Photography Portland, Oregon » Justin Lee Photography | Portland , OR

Very interesting review, loved it thanks for posting and good luck with the new camera

I shot a Christmas party last week, and my D600 had been left on "Vivid" picture mode, plus the Auto-WB had been adjusted one notch away from green (because people always look too green in outdoor shots). I forgot about those settings, and everyone in the photos had very red faces. Had to correct all of them in PS, with mixed results. Lighting was a mix of speedlite and various household lights. (Our house has incandescent, LED, and halogen.)

I'm going to PM you and anyone else who wants my solution/advice on this since I feel like almost no one is admitting the issue with D600 colors and thinks I'm completely absurd. I have easily wasted a couple hundred hours just on correcting, matching, skin tones and white balances. What a waste. I may be the most vocal about it on the entire internet....but I've always referred to the very prominent Nikon shooter Ryan Brenizer who said skin tones were weird on his D600 review. I have only found a few people that agree with me--one person even as much as said D600 colors are just crap. The green reflection of grass on people's faces was not fun either -_-

This is kinda funny because I upgraded from a Canon crop sensor to my first full-frame D600 with the biggest reason being skin tones! :D

Let me also say that I have not once complained about the D600 issues! I'm really glad Nikon has really taken care of me as a result of the problem, but I feel that the colors were way more time consuming than removing dust spots ever were for me.

I also would like a pm when you get the chance. My D610 seems to do a bit better than the D600....but seems to still fall short. My D90 in my opinion handles skin tones better than my D610....

Could it be that this is how people actually look when outside surrounded by greenery, but our brains compensate and adjust the colors we are seeing? Maybe the problem with this sensor is that it is hyper-accurate, but only when we see the picture out of context does the skin look too green. I have struggled with this somewhat, which is why my Auto-WB was adjusted a click away from green.

And, if it makes you feel better, you're not the only person on the internet fussing about this: Ken Rockwell said the colors on this camera were too green, which is why he suggested the Auto-WB adjustment in the first place.

And, Hey, PM me those suggestions, too. I have two D600s and don't foresee trading up anytime soon. Thank you for that very nice offer.

Sure thing Blade Canyon. Hope it is some help to you. By the way, have you had your shutterbox replaced yet? The second time I sent my bodies in for a much smaller amount of dust than the first time I got pretty lucky I guess.. Will PM you more details :)

You might be right. As far as Ken Rockwell--I followed his advice when I first got the camera but I always shoot in RAW.

You're right, if I'd been shooting in RAW at my cocktail party, the Auto-WB would not be an issue. Yes, I got the shutters on both D600s replaced by Nikon. Thank you for the PM, it was very interesting.
