Yes sorry, the thread had got so interesting i forgot the title :D

Maybe someone got a concealed carry for a blunderbuss. It's the USA; everything's possible there. ;)

Here I could get a license (no carry) if I'd shoot as a hobby. If I however would say I want one as self-defense, I'd not get it. That would be the wrong reason. How's that for logic?

Doing your own hand loads is the way to go. I have reloaded all of my ammunition for the last 30 years. It costs me about 42¢ to hand load a .30-06, about 26¢ to do a .223. It took me a couple of months to finally find the right combination of case, powder, primer and bullet for my Rem 700 .30-06 but now with Sierra 150 gr hollow point boat tail bullets and 42.3 gr of IMR 3031 I can shoot a 3 round group at 100yds you can cover with a dime:

Granted, my rifle has been accurized. It still has the stock barrel but I replaced the walnut stock with a B&C composite one, had a gunsmith glass the bed and float the barrel 0.020" and adjusted the trigger pull to just under 2 pounds (which makes a HUGE difference!) This group was shot with only the rifle resting on the bipod and my left hand in a fist, forming a steady base for the butt of the stock. I airbrushed the rifle with Duracoat paints, which really are not paint but an epoxy resin. Very tough stuff!

I need to quit spending money on photography gear (snicker) and get my reloading setup done. (Actually, I more than I need, and I have everything that I want in that dept. Well, I would like some Alienbees, but I am good with my speedlight setup). As much as I enjoy shooting, especially my bolt gun, I need to get off my butt and just get my reloading equipment purchased and setup.

That is a VERY nice group!! Damn fine rifle ya got there. What type of glass do you have sitting on it?

Here is my bolt gun:
Longbow2_zpsb8f83b1a.jpg
Remington 700 5R in .308. (24" stainless barrel, 1:11.25" twist)
Accuracy International AICS stock/chassis
VersaPod Bipod w/AI spigot
Accushot rear monopod (I use the monopod on the bench, but not when shooting prone)
Nightforce NXS 5.5-22 x 50mm w/NP-R1 reticle

I don't have any pics of target groups, but the best I have cranked out of it was right at 0.64" (center to center) at 100 yards, 5 shots. It shoots better than I do. I can shoot MOA out to 600 yards, but past that, my groups start to open up just slightly past MOA. I need to shoot more out at those distances and beyond. My buddy can hit 10" groups with it at 1000 yards, but I have not gotten my skill up that far yet. I use Federal Gold Medal Match 175gr ammo. The FGMM uses the 175gr Seirra Match King boat tail hollowpoint projectile, which my barrel is optimized for. It is the projectile that I plan on using once I start reloading.

I do not choose to carry a firearm but do not fault those that do. I am concerned by the recent proliferation of of so many carrying firearms. I do happen to know some individuals who have no business owning a firearm, let alone carrying one around. And if you have lived as long as I have you too, know such individuals. And the easy availibility of firearms favors criminals as much as it does law abiding folks who are rightly concerned with their safety or the safety of their families. So again, it would appear , that eternal vigilance is necessary to safeguard our lives and those of our loved ones. So be careful out there. We need all of our members.

It is NOT the responsible, law abiding citizens carrying weapons you have to worry about, it is the criminals who get them on the street illegally who should concern you . The cities with some of the strictest gun laws, NYC, Chicago, KILLadelphia, DC and Detroit have the worst gun violence. It is an utterly false, urban myth propagated by the gun-a-phobia left in this country that a proliferation of legal firearms carried by law abiding people will lead to more gun violence and the FBI's statistics, don't take my word for it, bear that out.

Law abiding citizens carrying weapons do not worry me as long as they have the proper training. By "proper training" I am not referring to just going to a gun range and learning how to use your weapon. I mean learning the laws that apply in your location, even when traveling to other states, and understanding the possible legal, financial, and emotional repercussions that may occur if you have to use your weapon in self defense. Guns should only be used as a last resort. If you shoot someone, even if you believe it was in self defense, you will probably end up in court as well in many states. If you don't have a good understanding of all of this you shouldn't be carrying in public. I filed the paper work for my permit to carry yesterday. In two weeks I am attending a two day class titled "Armed Citizens Rules of Engagement". If you are going to carry for personal protection get educated and stay educated.

Well I have no gun=a=phobia and am quite proficient in the use of firearms. And in most matters I am somewhere to the right of Atilla the Hun. That said, there are still too many people walking around packing heat in sometimes inappropriate circumstances. And not all of them are as law=abiding as they would have us believe. It becomes a challenge to sort out the criminals from the others. But I do not think that advocating everyone goes armed is helpful.
We need to have harsher penalties for any felonys committed with firearms, no exceptions. Then perhaps, law abiding citizens will not feel the need to carry firearms so often. I subscribe to the philosophy in that old Willie Nelson song, "Come on back Jesus and pickup John Wayne on the way"

I'm just going to buy a surplus tank and be done with it. I then won't have to worry about the bad guys or the "good" guys. As for those kids who play to loud on my street, my AGM-129 cruise missile should be delivered today. When the tank is in the shop, twin .50 caliber machine guns mounted on the front of my car should take care of any slow drivers. Bad news all around.
