Difficulty Choosing Travel Superzoom/Walkabout Telephoto

The Tamron 16-300 certainly gives a lot of bang for your buck and the focal range means it is as close to an 'All-in-One' as you can get.
Def one to consider I think....

Thanks for the inputs everyone, after much deliberation I just took the plunge and ordered the 16-300 Tamron!
Hopefully I'll be able to give it a test drive this weekend so I will report back with my initial thoughts and observations if that might be of use to others.
Cheers, Rob

Thanks All.
Received the new Tamron in the post today (excellent service again by WEX Photographic in the UK, recommended).
First thoughts from unboxing are 'Wow, how in hell did they do this?' Build quality is very good, lens has a nice solid feel to it but is much smaller than my Nikon 55-300 despite the greater focal length.
Took a few frames to test focus and zoom action and all seems to be good. Looking forward to getting out and about for a proper test drive. Hopefully tomorrow if the weather plays ball....

A lot will depend on your expectations. All the superzooms seem to do ok in the center, but have fair to poor resolution at the borders. So for birds, it might be great, but if you wanted to use it for a group shot, well, some of the folks near the edges would be less-sharp than the folks in the middle.

Expectations are pretty low really, still planning to use primes and more expensive specialist lenses when shooting specifics but for an 'all-in-one' this could be very useful indeed. Time will tell I guess...

Hi everyone, I have the:Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR .

I wanted ONE lens with a good range so I don't have to walk around with many lenses. Also, a FX format lens. Is there any other lens that fits this criteria that you guys can recommend, I haven't found any. If any of you have used it , would like to hear your experiences an opinion of it please.
Thanks everyone !!!

I use one of the older Tamron AF 28-300 3.5. This lens can be had on the cheap and it is macro. Drawback NO focusing motor in the lens.
