Lawrence's 365 for 2014

20th September

Election day in New Zealand. Tomorrow we will have a different tail wagging a different dog or we will have much the same and life will go on.

I went back to one of the places that really intrigues me. There is just junk and crap all over the show and hundreds (nay millions) of PIGS running around all over the main road. They are accompanied by thousands of chickens!
Today there was a man there and he gave me the thumbs up - not sure if that was some sort of signal that certain herbal remedies are for sale but I took it as friendly so I got out to chat to him. Well all I can say is what a nice guy - despite appearances. He was barefoot and totally unconcerned about all the pig and chicken poop he was walking in. This protein applied directly to the feet may have explained his rather long toes ...

Anyway he was a cool dude and told me had 65 pigs that were his "mates". He doesn't slaughter them at all but has people stealing them as they are incredibly friendly. He says he had almost a hundred a month ago. He went into the caravan (first picture) to retrieve one of the latest additions who is just six days old.

Awwwwww.....little piggies are sooooooo cute. I'd love to have a mini-pig as a pet. Would be great fun I reckon.

You can see that bloke loves his pigs. Look at that expression :D

I set off to do some motion blur - never having really tried it before. I think it is something I would enjoy doing and improving at.
Anyway little old Coromandel village is not the most active spot in the world on a Sunday evening but I thought if anywhere there may be something happening at the bottle store.
I was sitting in my car and clearly using a tripod would be a better option.

Got back home to a pretty black and white sunset so thought I would shoot it and process it as almost monochrome.

I want to stretch myself more than I have been and I saw something in this - although not quite sure what.
I think I nearly captured what I "saw".
I'm not explaining myself too well because I …… of forget it!

Lawrence....is the horizon OK? I mean...not too much crap. Maybe a portrait oriented shot with the posts in the foreground. Maybe long exposure if possible to smooth the water.

I hate it when you see something but just don't seem to be able to capture it. Very frustrating but worth revisiting I think :D

Horizon was horrible.
I'm almost happy with this. The water was rippling in all sorts of directions with wind gusts - and I wanted a high ISO as I am battling to get out of my caveman thinking where anything above 400 iso is a total NO-NO!
These posts in the sea wet the outer extremities of a boat ramp - to guide the boats in.
I was hoping to get the viewer to think "what on earth are those posts about? Is it an old jetty/building?

I see what you mean about the horizon Lawrence. I think you got the "what are those posts about?" bit, but I do feel it needs something. Just not sure what.

The pig-guy looks interesting, you seem to meet a lot of interesting people when you are out with your camera Lawrence!

I was thinking the same thing the other day Steve. Seems just by talking to folk they are happy to relate stuff.
And i try to approach people who have character in their faces.
So far so good.

Its a good way to get into portraiture I would think! I need to try it, I have never tried portraits... yet!

They are certainly interesting and the opposite shore is a nice background - What is on the near shore - Are the posts from an old pier or something?

Steve these are "working" posts. They designate the edges of a concrete boat ramp. From left to right you would be entering the water as you steer between the two lots of poles extreme left (foreground and background - although there is one set left and out of picture missing in the photo)

Ahh! I see now :)

I have seen similar poles before and thought they must be from an old pier or something unfinished! Doh!

Lawrence, I liked your original post shot best. It may have needed more negative space at the top. The photo has a Zen quality to it. You are on to something there.

Lawrence, I really like the photos of the guy with the pigs. Very cool story and nice shots. I love it when those kinds of things happen.

These shots of the post are intriguing..... can you get any closer?

Thanks Mate.

Yes I could get closer but the water is freezing and when the tide is out there seems little point. :D

Thanks RON. Great that you "saw" it (whatever it is) too and yes I guess Zen like is a very apt description.
