Help! I'm still a total rookie, but we had a great moonrise tonight and I was hoping to get something decent. Instead, I got these. Same situation the other night. I'm using a tripod, and had VR on the other night. I turned it off tonight, and thought that might do the trick, but my results were pretty much the same. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know I forgot to set the exposure comp back to 0.0, but aside from that, I'm stumped. Super moon tomorrow, and it is supposed to be pretty clear here. Thanks!!

Spot meter, cut ISO down to about 200 and adjust the EV as needed. You need more shutter speed.

Here is my try at a moon shot. Since I'm unsure my exif shows I will say that I had to go to F27 at ISO 100 with shutter at 1/15 to get anything I could recognize. Lens was55-300 at 300mm, hand held with vr enabled. What could I have done besides using a tripod to improve this shot? _AAA3104 - Version 2 - 2014-07-11 at 23-17-17.jpg

Why go to F27? I shoot hand held all the time and I shoot program, 1/300 minimum shutter speed. I use spot metering and let it figure everything. I only shoot one shot. I showed my wife tonight how to set her D7000 and she got it first shot.
