Managed to get this picture yesterday with a little bit of patience. using a nikon 3200 with a tamron 70-300mm lens(handheld)
both the same picture, the second picture is cropped

Check whether the 18-70 will have better magnification than the 18-55.

By this do you mean will the combination of focal length and focus distance allow a greater in focus magnification?
