Great shots! Was almost tempted to pull out the old K-1000 this week ..... almost. If I did, I sure as heck don't know who'd process the film. LoL.

Well done.

Day 155 Portrait Kodak

Continuing with shooting on this old point and shoot. Bokeh is difficult on this camera. I change the aperture, but it really doesn't seem to do anything.

Nice portrait :D
Thanks, but shooting all this week using an old point and shoot (p&s) to show the kids what can be done with a simple camera is hard! We forget how spoiled we are with dslr's.

Even more exciting is that I have 3 more weeks to go. I don't figure I can tell the kids during the class that they too can make nice photos with their p&s and then pick up my multi thousand dollar equipment.

Day 156 Perspective Kodak

A shot to show the kids the perspective of shooting at the animals eye-level versus towering over the animal.

It was a P&S that got me into DSLR's ;) I was told that what I was doing with my P&S was really good, so I naturally went the next step. There is nothing wrong with most P&S cameras. They had reasonable zoom and mp value. It's the person behind the P&S that makes all the difference :D

The hardest part is that DOF is huge and that most or nearly all functions have to be dug up in a menu. The quality is not bad and I'm shooting with a very old P&S. Keeps you on your toes!

Day 157 - Star Party

All this week I have been attending an astronomy class with Wendy. To conclude the class we did a star party (in the city unfortunately) with our new telescopes Orion SkyQuest XT6. Surprisingly, this ~$300 telescope is amazing capable. For the first time I viewed the rings of Saturn with my eyes. Watched the moons of Jupiter as they orbited the planet and could see the bands on the planet. As for the moon, I think I could see a quarter that fell out of one of the astronauts pockets. It was truly an amazing evening. Next... I want to look into mounting my camera to the telescope.

That is a Fabulous shot, none of mine turned out well. It was a glorious evening seeing all of those things above us, and knowing how to find the planets was amazing.

Day 158 Milk Weed

There is a lady down the road that keeps a cluster of milk weeds. They are in bloom and have an interesting flower.

That is what I suspect. However, I'm not sure we have any here that eat from them. I think it's the Monarch that does.

It's the Monarchs that like them over here. We get a lot of milkweed in the local fields. I have a couple of plants that I am keeping a good eye on. I've seen Monarch caterpillars on them but not a chrysalis as yet so I figure they must just all get eaten. It's years since I ve seen a chrysalis and there seem to be so few caterpillars about these days compared to when I was a kid. Too much pesticide use I'd guess :(
