I have used it with and with out and am unsure if I remember seeing a difference. I may do an experiment on my days off to see if there is a difference.

You'll probably get to this before I will, but could you post your findings? The amount of sun we have here is similar to Alice, but a lot more intense. I typically need a hood on all my lenses, but I'm not so sure about the so-called hood for the 16-35.

Will do, lets hope for clear skies next week.

I always use a lens hood regardless of its effectiveness for avoiding flare as its other important feature is that it acts as a potential barrier to objects that might otherwise scratch or damage the UV filter/front element.

I always use one when outdoors as well. But, the lens hood for the 16-35 is not much of a hood. I doubt that it would offer up any kind of protection since most of it is flush with the lens. I checked again last night and one of my padded lens cases will fit the 16-35 without the hood, so I might just use that if I don't really need the hood.

I had the chance to really put the 16-35 to the test during the past month. I'd have to say I'm very pleased with it. Sure, there is a bit of distortion wide, but that's to be expected. Here are a few interior shots. I'll post a few outdoor shots next week.

Wowzer! I just looked at your web site. Awesome images there, Richard! What camera body do you usually use?

Congrats on the lens--can't wait to see what you do with it. ;)

Glenn,
Did you use a polarizer on the lens? The deep blue sky suggests you did. IF so, can you tell me which one you used? I am thinking of purchasing one.

I actually did not use a polarizer filter. It so happen that the sun was on the opposite side of the subject (60 degrees from where I stood). I just added more vibrance when I adjusted the file as a RAW file. I do have a 77mm B&W MRC CP filter that I also normally use.
