I've seen this shot done a number of times and always liked it, so I decided to see how long it took the Mrs. to yell at me that I, "better not drop that on the bedroom carpet!!"

For the curious, I used an umbrella off the front left and a constant LED handheld over top and behind slightly to cast (and center) the shadow.

NICE!!! Are you practicing for the equinox when an egg can stand on end without any support? :eek: I actually tried it once, and it does work. ;) Won't your wife love that?!! :glee:

It's the day when both the days and nights are all the same length - the first day of Spring and Autumn. The theory is that because of the earth's position relative to the sun an egg will balance on its end. That isn't the case, but it's fun to watch people try.

I happened to do it on the equinox but never tried it on any other day.

@wud, supposedly the equinox is the only day that an egg won't topple over when stood on its large end. Snopes says it is a false claim and that it can be done at any time--like I said, I only tried it once. And I pretty much take Jake at his word, too! ;)

Funny how you can look through shots immediately after taking them and pick one as the shot, only to come back the next day and find another. The shot above I really got excited about because of what happened with the top light. This morning, I seem to like this one better. Sort of Hard-Boiled vs. Soft-Boiled.

Both looks very good. Eggs are pretty amazing with shadows.. so soft.
Seeing this second image, makes me think the first may have a little to much light red tone in it?

I'm thinking the same but didn't spend the time to decipher the issue last night.

The second is a toned B&W while the first is color, so that has something to do with it. The oddest thing is that I have no idea where the red tone is coming from in the first photos since there is nothing in the room I shot in that was red - except for my tripod, which was completely obscured by the table the egg was sitting on. I sat in LR and started playing with the saturation sliders, desaturating one hue at a time, and each time I'd pull one back it would be replaced by another. What it seems to be is a refraction of the light around the edge of the egg, so as I desaturate each hue the next/another is apparent, with reds at the left edge and magenta at the bottom right. Sort of neat.

What I believe "fixes" it is a -15 tweak of the green/magenta slider and a +6 tweak to the blue/yellow slider in the WB section. What do you think?

Like it! Very delicate. I kind of want to eat an egg now, lol.

I did some egg shots a while ago, and I got a few with this pinkish tone too - I thought it was the indoor light that created it combined with this light brown tone an egg can have... I deleted them so don't know what the WB was set to, but probably Auto, as that most of the time works just fine inside.

I'm not helping it as much as it's helping itself. I think the squirrels are telling her where to eat. Here's what I found when I got back from food shopping this morning...
