Day 48 - Twisted Selfie

Well, ok... FLIPPED selfie, as I wanted to be able to read the Nikon on the camera and the lens. This was inside, late at night, so had to shoot wide open and lost the DOF I wanted to read the branding on the camera, so gonna take a mirror outside this week and get a bit better lighting and shot.

Day48-3.jpg

I definitely like the feel of the pic, though!

I like the narrow DoF and the selective color. It works. Not sure that outside with more light/DoF would work as good.

Excellent shot.
How late at night, how open etc. Sometimes known as exif!

Thanks!

It was around... 11:30 p.m. 1/400, f1.8, ISO 800 with just the over vanity lighting. Turned the ISO up a bit so I could keep the shutter speed high enough to keep the sharpness on the lens lettering even though I was tired. ;)

Day 49 - Do-Overs

Messing around with the same concept as the previous shot, trying to get the "Nikon" on the camera body more in focus as well. This one was a little earlier in the evening (around 9:30), with the over vanity light AND the ceiling light on. Dropped the shutter speed to 1/40, closed the aperture down to f5.6 and kept the ISO at 800. It's a little lighter, and I got the top of the camera in focus like I wanted, but not sure I like the feel of the picture as much as the original. Opinions?

Day49-1.jpg

This second pic is just to show why I didn't upload anything last night. I was able to read a few threads... and that was it. I couldn't upload or reply to a thing without getting this error, and haven't been able to view much at work at all. No jibes intended for @jdeg, as I know he's been working his butt off since the server move, and I appreciate it as I'm really attached to this place!!

Day 50 - I "Mist" all my opportunities today...

Work just hasn't been allowing for my lunch time photo trips, as it's been so busy I've been grabbing take out and eating at my desk, so tonight, while I was waiting for my son and his friend to get out of youth group, I took some misty parking lot at night shots with my nifty fifty.

This first shot is just a snap of the street lights, plus a few headlights and taillights, through the water beaded up on my passenger window. (1/100, f4.0, ISO 800)

Day50-1.jpg

These next two were an attempt to catch the halo of light under a couple of street lights in an otherwise dark parking lot. The 1st one was just the normal shot with some basic LR editing, the 2nd had the in-camera "miniatures" effect applied before the basic LR editing.

(1/100, f4.0, ISO 800)

The server down was a new and different problem than the server move. We did not allow JDEG to sleep or eat till he got it back up today.
I think I like the original of the mirror shot better. You being out of focus looks much better. :nightmare:

Day 51 - A couple of dicey subjects...

No, really, it's dice. :) Like the color combo, so dropped 'em randomly (then re-arranged them anyway) and shot a couple of close ups with the nifty fifty.

Day51-2.jpg

Then, just playing around with PS, I added a LARGE nearly full moon to one of my old shots from January. :)

Day 52 - Return of the rare "Pooptail Buffalo"

On the way home, we had another amazing sunset, so I stopped for a couple more shots of the "Pooptail Buffalo". From this angle, you can see how we named him. ;)

Day52-1.jpg

Another "photographer", with phone in hand, sure didn't mind barging in and running up next to the sculpture to get his own shots, so I used him to my advantage.

Day52-2.jpg

This is what caught his, and my, attention.

That first shot is spectacular. The one the the "Phonetographer" is really good also.

Day 52 - BONUS!!! (or PART 2!) - D U C K!!!

FINALLY settled down enough at work that I was able to take one of my craved lunchtime photo jaunts. I *KNEW* there would be different types of ducks at one of the larger park ponds I like to visit, but thought they might all be gone by the time I got to make my return... quite a few were still around, though. Lucky me!!

1st, of course, to keep the locals happy, I took a shot of the ever hungry and fearless drake mallard, and the even MORE fearless resident goose (who didn't care at all that I was there to shoot ducks instead).

Day52duck6.jpg

Day52Goose.jpg

The rest of these shots were a little tougher, as the "out-of-towners" are a bit more skittish around strangers. Heavily cropped to draw them in.

First, the ducks that stayed the farthest away from me, the tiny, short billed Pied-bills.

Day52duck1.jpg

Then, because I'd never seen these guys before, and I fell in love with their coloring (especially the bills), several pics of the Ring-necks.

Day52duck2.jpg

Day52duck3.jpg

Day52duck4.jpg

And finally, often confused with mallard because of the similar coloring, the Northern Shovelers.

Day52duck5.jpg

I rather thought that this black headed shoveler might actually be a different variety, but per the internet, it appears he is just a more rarely seen version of the Northern. He was hanging out all by himself, and sure didn't want to give me a good angle.

What till you get and ipadography shooter. I usually disolve into fits of hysterical laughter when I see one out and about photo bombing people.
