@hark , I hope that is so true. I really regret missing that last year and have been kicking myself all year long because I didn't buy the 70-200 f2.8

I knew there was someone interested in the 70-200mm f/2.8, but I couldn't remember who it was. That would be a REALLY nice lens to own! :)

i am kicking myself too Kevin, you never bought me on either, dont miss out this time mate:D

Well I'll tell you a little story, I had permission and the lens was on the counter. Even went as far as putting on my camera and taking a few shots. Well, as usuall I talked myself out of it and decided to hold off. My wife couldn't believe I walked away.

For those who are interested in buying a lens when the rebate price kicks in, last year many of the stores sold out of the lenses and had to back order them. Some of the lenses weren't back in stock for months. If you are interested, be sure to keep watch of Nikon Rumors.

According to Nikon Rumors, Nikon is supposed to offer a lens only rebate similar to what they offered last February. No specific info is yet available.

Good news: Nikon lens only rebates are coming back | Nikon Rumors

Nikon USA has been consistent with the rebate introduction about this time of the year. I purchased my D7000 and 70-200mm f2.8 VRII about 3 years ago. The 70-200mm VRII lens base price was only $2,200 at the time. The value has increased after that but the value of the camera continues to drop. I've been enjoying in using that lens since day 1.

It's been calling you for a long time now Rick. You could have been enjoying it since the day you thought about getting one. ;)

The day after I buy it the new 24-70 2.8 VR will be announced! Still on the fence, but this will be the year.

I'm looking to pick up the 24-120. Last year they were offering $300 back...I'm hoping that's the same this year because it will put it at right about the price of a refurbished one I was looking at...

I'm planning on buying a Tamron 24-70 but don't tell Rick. My gently used D800 will be in my hands on Saturday. :)

Congrats Eduard. Might as well pre-order an 82mm lens filter for the lens.

That's one reason the Tamron is up in the air for me. I have about $300 worth of 77mm filters that fit everything else. The same will probably be true of the sigma, making the cost of the Nikon that much closer.

That is one of the benefits of having the same size filters especially with CPL filters. The Nikon lens will tend to retain its value better IMO.
