Don's Old Daily Dabblings

Re: Don's Construction Project

She will be there in spirit :). What are you building?

I hope not....
WE are building a room that will be connected to our kitchen and the table will be out there since the kitchen has always been a little cramped. We have just finished a full remodel of the kitchen and increase the number of cabinets so there is even less floor room. This addition was planed before we did that though. There is also a new laundry room and a half bath in the addition. Lots of natural light in the addition. 6 windows and a full glass door in the main room. The old laundry was off the kitchen and it is becoming a walk in pantry.

Hey Don. Once the demo is finished is anything going back up? Are you removing this for something else to take it's place?

With all the straps and Velcro I won't be able to put my A back on it. There are some areas on the side of the base that Might be able to put stickers on so I may look for some. I can put some weight on the boot now and take a couple of steps so far. maybe in a couple of weeks I will be walking pretty good on it.

Aren't you glad you didn't try to do this yourself... :)

You seem to have picked up the right team. They fly and look like they care about the quality of the finished product.

Money well spent (well invested I should say).

Re: Don's Construction Project

Will it be handicap accessible? Just thinking ahead.

It actually is. The half bath was not in the original plans but after the broken leg and I was not able to get into my bathroom with even a walker the wife decided we needed to add the half bath. I proceeded to redraw the plans before I talked to this contractor. I added 5 feet to the far side of the addition and put in the bath. It has a comfort height commode which is not handicapped but more design for older people. It is about 2 to 3 inches taller than a standard commode. The bathroom also has a 36in door.

The contractor also told me this morning that this could be turned into a mother in law suite with very little work. Just my moving the laundry room out and back to where it is now and expanding the bathroom into the laundry room area and making the rest of the laundry room into a walk in closet. So a good selling point when the house goes up for sale on day.

Cleaning off the wall getting ready to pull out the window and door. Window will be a walk through opening to the new room from the kitchen and the doo will just become a wall.
