Had an accident with my Nikkor AF-S DX VR 55-200MM F/4-5.6G IF-ED LENS. iT WAS KNOCKED OFF A TABLE AND BENT THE ZOOM . It can move it in and out with a slight resistance, however the auto focus it the problem. It was a kit lens and I can replace it with a new one for $249 and refurbish one for $229. It is worth sending away or just replace.

If you don't use the lens that much, I would consider getting a different lens. They are good during daylight but don't work well indoor or in low light situation.

Interesting... Must be a Virginia thing. My 55-200 just doesn't seem to give me good sharpness anymore. I've given it to a friend to evaluate alongside one he has. Unfortunately it will be after the weekend before I get results.

nickt, Adorama has that same lens for $99, however, neither has VR as my damaged one has. I have replaced it with the AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4.5-5.6G ED VR. Sometimes when hiking I rather have the lighter 55-200mm lens. I just hate to junk a lens if repair was reasonable. Thanks for all the input.

Ahh. I didn't notice the no VR.

That lens is cheap enough. I bought the VR 55-200mm a while ago before I knew what I was doing. If I did it over I'd buy a refurb or nice used 70-300mm now. Maybe something to consider :)

One of the first lenses I sold was the 55-200. Never liked it. Not enough reach, not great in low light situations, not fast enough AF......I could go on and on. Do yourself a favour.......oh wait....you already went ahead and got the 70-300. :) Smart man. :)
