I came home today to see my favorite species of bird, nuthatches, hopping up and down the tree and enjoying the bird feeder. I just love watching their antics as they cavort around the tree.

9-19-13: Part 1 - Ducks!!

On my way home from work this afternoon after running some errands, I passed one of the ponds I often find interesting water fowl on. The pond did not let me down in the least. There were ducks and geese in the pond, but the ducks were the interesting ones.

9-19-13: Deer!!

Yup, deer. We have lots of them. I happened to look out the living room window at about 6:30 this evening, and this happy family of four deer were grazing on the lawn. They did get up to about 25-30 feet from me. I agree with Spousal Unit, deer are even dumber than they look.

All photos were taken handheld, with my D300, at ISO 400, f/6.3, 1/60th sec, and at a focal length of 200.

This little guy is one of this year's crop. Notice it still has some of its spots, even though it is growing its winter coat.

This one is mama. Besides the fawn (light brown), the other two are last year's crop. They were triplets but one of them was hit by a car, so they are down one. The one that was hit by the car became buzzard buffet.

This is what happens when one uses a slow shutter speed. Deer really do look dumb. :)

i would think mom would be fat and sleek at this time of year but with those ribs hanging out she may not be doing well.
Ron,

I noticed that, too. Also, the photo I took last week of the young buck showed him as rather ribby also. I think our deer population has hit critical mass.

I love succulents. They are about the only houseplants I can keep alive, only because they thrive when ignored. :) I have been waiting weeks and weeks for this succulent to finally bloom. It has taken all summer for it to finally pop out some tiny white flowers on it's long tendril.

Today was one of those less than inspiring days but I did come up with something. Since it's apple season, I had a lot of apples to choose from.

I had a lot to do today plus it has been really cloudy and dreary most of the day, so photo opportunities were at a minimum today. I noticed the maples along the edge of the woods, I kept thinking they looked like an impressionist painting. I finally got around to taking a few shots late this afternoon.

Took a short walk this afternoon after work to take advantage of the beautiful afternoon. One of the things I love about the fall is all the funky fungus that pops up.

These guys did not exist yesterday. They exploded overnight, literally. :)

While checking out all the fungus, I noticed these weird little ground cover plants with red berries. I have no idea what they are. They seem to grow along the edge of the woods in mainly shady areas.

All photos were taken with my D7000 and the AF 55mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor lens, on-camera flash, ISO 200, f/9, 1/60th sec.

I haven't done any opportunistic feline photos lately, so here are a few.

Love the grey kitty in #935 so relaxed and yet so alert :) Creature usually features in your feline photos so don't know this ones name but is it the one that adopted you?
