Rob's Project 365 for 2013

You should have windows 8 its no trouble at all :D of course i could be lying

I think if Microsoft would man up and admit that the interface it a piece of garbage and give people a choice to go back to the classic desktop like Windows 7 then it might be the best version of Windows yet. BUT the interface stinks. I have a shell that sort of mimics the old desktop.

Thanks to a house full of academianuts, I managed to get Photomatix at a seriously good price last night.

As if I didn't have enough to learn, lets throw some HDR in with it! Yup, I'm also nuts.
There's one place I know of that I could use some good HDR, and that's this tunnel under the train tracks, so this'll be my test subject.

Here's the bracketed photos I took, while standing in water.

I know with HDR people either love it or hate it. I'm trying to find that fine line where you're not completely sure if it's HDR or not. Ok, I know everyone here can probably tell it's HDR, I mean everyone else.

Here's what I wound up with. I think it might be a tad over the line, but I can't quite figure out how to get pull it back a bit. Yet. I will figure it out.

Well, I can't quite use this for tomorrow photo, as it seems to be today still.

However, after hundreds of failures, I think I may have got this whole star thing figured out...

Now I just need a wider lens with a larger aperture, I do believe. It's quite big up there!

17mm f/2.8 ISO-3200 20 sec.

Nicely done!
I love space/star shots, a person on a programming site that I frequent posts an Astrology Post OTD and they are quite stunning.

Very good job with the HDR. I think you got the results you wanted. The only spot you missed was the other side of the tunnel. Not sure about Photomatix if it has a burn tool but in PhotoShop you can burn in (darken) any area by brushing it.

Thanks!

No idea what photomatix is capable of yet, I could probably darken it in LR though, huh?

I am headed back out to that spot tomorrow to perhaps get a little closer without falling in the water. There's a bed spring, some pipes, a boot, weeds, etc... I found some writings on the wall when I went to full screen with it. Looks like someone loves someone, but still. It's an excuse to go back and see what it says.

Ok, I darkened it a tad in LR. Looks better, I think. Thanks for pointing it out!

Ahhh geee! I'm back to that whole it looks good on one screen, looks horrible on the other screen. The light at the end of the tunnel looks completely blown out. I'll try for better photos tomorrow. LOL :encouragement:

I am pretty much never satisfied with some of my photos. I am not sure what it around the area but a little wider might look nice. Maybe to the outside borders of the concrete? Just an idea

Put your waterproof hiking boots on, leave your sandals behind, and come with me back to the tunnel.

Ok, it's actually just a tiny bridge for a major railway corridor. I do know where there's an extremely large bridge, but I'm still trying to figure it out in my mind. Anyway... Standing on top of the bridge, it looks like this. I have my suspicions that the railway used to run over those two cement walls.

Now lets move around to that left cement wall and take a look at our subject matter.

No, not the train. A bit lower. No, not the wild grapes. Lower! There ya go, the tunnels! Specifically the one on the right.

Let's take one step in and see what's there. Still got your waterproof hiking boots on I hope.

Let's go about halfway in now.

What's that behind us? That's just where we came in at, silly.

Well... that's it. I know they're over the top HDR, but they looked rather boring if I didn't cross that line.

Last photo, center left edge. Does that look like a half skeleton to anyone else? I think I'm going to take my halloween props here later for another shoot. ::what::

I like all of them. The one with the train is really good when seen with the rest of the tunnel shots. Good job on the HDR

Ok, the DW is taking a break from homework, so lets get caught up!

I think something is going on at the right side of my lens at it's widest. I swear it looks out of focus...

Playin' with some B&W today.

I really like the dual train track shot, great shot.

Thanks! I don't like climbing around those, the trains are relentless on these tracks. So I set all the settings on the camera, looked both ways 6 times and was in and out of there in seconds. I have been safely on the side taking photos of the train coming one way, when a train coming the other way snuck up on me. Had to go do laundry if you know what I mean... That was a couple days after reading a photographer got killed while standing on one track taking a photo of a train on the other track, and got hit by a train on the track she was standing on. I thought, "Why oh why would you ever stand ON a track??"
