Day 220, 2013 - Storm Clouds

Spectacular storm clouds over the Wasatch Front Mountain Range. Shot this to be black and white as it looks far more dramatic and with the Tokina 11-16mm to capture the monstrously rising clouds. I'm not one that sees many pictures in front of me that scream black and white as this one did. For scale, that mountain rises almost a mile up from the level I'm standing at - total mountain height is 10,000 feet above sea level.

you're right! …spectacular!

B&W was a good decision. The beauty of this shot comes from
all the right decisions you made. Groovy!

Day 221, 2013 - Speed Week, Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah - Fastest Place on Earth

I'm here for Speed Week, actually today and the first day as I have Goblin Valley on Monday. Heading out on to the salt I truly fell in love with my Tokina 11-16mm lens. The color is spectacular and the image is truly sharp. Very happy with this purchase. First is my best picture of the day. Second is my favorite picture of the day.

Unknown racer.

Continued... Day 221 - "Selfie"

I'm sure I don't do it as well as some teen age girl, but this one is for my daughter. Dad took a selfie! LOL! :)

Nice shot. You break the rule of having the shot cut in half by the horizon BUT I don't think it would have worked as good anywhere else. The wording on the bottom makes it.

Great job.

I played with it so many different ways before settling on breaking all the rules. The truck leaving the shot rather than going into the shot was needed because I couldn't pass up the smoke trail. Splitting the shot 50/50 I felt like it showed the vast expanse of nothingness and the flatness. The wording I thought was necessary to fill in the missing information of such a plain sky and ground.

Anyway, that was not so much for you Don as it was for people starting out and seeing all the rules were broke in composing the shot and what my thinking was.

Thanks Don.
