Weird, I received an actual snail mail letter today advising me of receipt and what was attached to the camera. (no battery or memory card) I have not received any e-mails.

The email mentioned that they were mailing me a printed copy as well. That likely what you got. I think you're a few days ahead of me in this process.

I'd suggest checking your email at your online server to see if it got hung up in the SPAM folder rather than landing in your inbox. Or it might be bouncing around in cyberspace taking the scenic route! ;)

Wow. I was just about to purchase a D600 until I happened upon internet articles regarding the dust/oil sensor issues...... Everyone's comments have been informative, thank you. Found a website that stated Nikon has finally owned up to the D600 dust issues and how they have rectified the problem.... or supposedly.

I want to step up from DX to FX and like everything I've read about the D600 but am now hesistant about actually buying one. Yes, the D800 is nice but I don't know if I can justify the additional cost AND 36 MP. Do I turn to the older D700?

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks, Dave.

The D700 is a wonderful camera. I've gotten gorgeous results with this camera. It's bigger and heavier than the 600, but more rugged and trouble free.

I think it's still a great choice specially if you can get an not overly abused specimen.

The D600 is a fine FX camera at that price point. But given the spot issue I would tell potential buyers to weigh the pros and cons of the D700 and D800. The spot issue doesn't necessarily affect everyone due to the way they shoot, but the fact remains that it really shouldn't occur in the first place. I personally haven't run into issues with spots affecting my shots, but since I have another body coming in I figured this was a great time to have this addressed. Once my D600 comes in I'll test it and that will be my personal proof on whether Nikon has a handle on this problem or not.

I called and talked to them today. The repair was completed yesterday, new shutter, checked auto-focus and cleaned low pass filter. It should be mailed out today or tomorrow.

Checking the work order the status shows as Parts Hold. I'll inquire later to find out if that is a standard step in the workflow or if the work is on hold until certain parts become available.

I posted at the same time.

That's great news. Did you get a new shutter on your previous cameras? I'll give them a call tomorrow to find out about the Parts Hold status.

Good luck with yours.

No, the others were never returned to Nikon, I just took them back to Costco and got a new one. The current model came from a local camera store that only has a 7 day return, so I'm stuck with it so to speak. I love the camera, but I'm pretty sick of dealing with the dust.

Smart move. Hopefully soon or in the near future, Nikon ought to do something to address this issue. Other than that, the D600 has a very good specs and performance.

Can you provide the webite/URL that states this?

I know a few people, including myself, that allowed ourselves to part with our camera for a week or two. Sent the d600 to Nikon LA for a shutter replacement. None of us has had the dust and oil issue since... Except for normal that is on all dslrs. All you have to do is send it in... They'll fix it.

Just spoke to a nikon rep and she believes this issue is dying down since she hasn't received recent calls regarig this. She also mentioned that it may been only the first production line of D600 that were mostly affected.

Did you feel the wool being pulled over your eyes with this statement....They wouldn't admit there was a problem for several months...

Mine still has the problem and I've owned the camera since earlier this year. I just don't want to part with it right now and prefer to wet clean it myself. If I get to the point where I can't remove stubborn spots, or when it gets closer to the expiration of its warranty, then it will go in.

My camera has shipped back and I'll have it on Tuesday. Not sure when I'll have time to go shooting, so it may take a month of more before I can tell if this repair was a success.

I got my snailmail notification like VectorZ received on 8/5. So I likely have at least another 7 days depending on what "Parts Hold" means. Haven't gotten a reply about that one. I hope your issue is resolved VectorZ.

The "Parts Hold" status is just as it sounds. They are waiting for the following part to continue the repair:

Awaiting Part: 1F999--708 (Shutter Plate Unit)

At least I know they're not just doing a clean.

Okay just got her back, here's a copy of the work order. Not sure when I'll go out next, but I'll post my findings as soon as I can.
