I sent my D600 in for dust and oil. I'm hope they have a handle on this issue

Does anyone have verification of any kind - even anecdotal - that the most recent 600s are finally manufactured without defect? That might calm
down the fear of purchasing a defective camera.
I have not heard anything like that and I doubt that would ever come out. They would not jeopardize all existing inventory with such a statement. The other problem is that available inventory is not first in, first out. One store may have one made last week along with one made last October.
Just spoke to a nikon rep and she believes this issue is dying down since she hasn't received recent calls regarig this. She also mentioned that it may been only the first production line of D600 that were mostly affected.
This could very well be the case and echos what happened with the D800 (left focus issue). Normally what I would do is try to find out information as to the transition to trouble-free D600s by what of serial numbers, ie: after what serial number would the production have rectified the issue or after what month/year of production.
My camera was marked as "shipped" and I received a tracking number. Should have it later this week. As soon as I get it I'll be doing some testing.
It looks like it took a solid month due to the "Parts Hold" deal. Without a backup, I can see how it would be tough to part with your camera. If I can declare mine "officially clean" like Jake then I think it's worth it to do it for sure.

As far as I know this forum mentioned some serial numbers but hasn't kept track of serial numbers in relation to dust issues. But you might be able to track from another forum. I think it would probably be tough. The dust issue is somewhat subjective. Someone that hasn't might say they're okay and somewhat that doesn't really have it might be crying to high heaven so the serial number results could be skewed.
Right, I followed the serial number theory for a while and it just wasn't consistent. Not too worried about it based on recent comments here. I usually do cleanings and tinkering myself, so not really scared to do a wet cleaning if needed just need to learn how. The camera shop guy said just bring it in and will do it for me, so ill get him go over it with me.
Got my D600 today and did a couple of test shots for kicks. Nice and clean. I'll revisit this in a few hundred shots. I did my shutter count before and after and it looks like they only fired it 33 times. I was expecting a bit more. I'm going through now and seeing my camera has been reset as far as naming convention and stuff but my saved user settings are in place.
My invoice read just about the same as VectorZ except they listed General Check & Clean 7 times.
