This shot has defied my every attempt at correction... It's only been lightly touched in 'post but for whatever reason I never seem to be happy with the final product. I finally just gave up and decided this is as good as we're going to get...

A Path Less Taken...
I like it. It has a minimalist look to it. It reminds me of a "sculpture," and I use that term very loosely, that I saw at the Philadelphia Art Museum years ago. They had an exhibit of prize-winning minimalist objects d'art. The winning "sculpture" was a piece of 2x10" board that was cut in a curvy wave on top and bottom, and painted black. I never could wrap my science brain around why that was considered art. :) Yours, at least, has been sculpted by nature, or at least, partly (the plant).

This is, in its own way, beautifully zen! The only thing that could have been done better, and that was before you touched the trigger, you could have given it the much softer background that is seen on each side…

Very cool shot, buddy!
Thank you!

And yes, the background is what keeps this shot in the "Post Your 'Almost' Shots" thread... :(
Unfortunately there was no avoiding it. I mean, I guess I *could* have moved 180' and shot it from the other side but believe me when I tell you, it would have lost something... LOL

I work in the Visual Arts department of a college and am surrounded by art, artists, art students and art professionals as my daily 9-5 grind. After having worked in this position for over thirteen years, after countless conversations on the topic and an ever growing understanding of the meaning and importance of art in the broadest possible sense, any *sincere* appreciation for Conceptual Art, like the piece you describe, continues to elude me.

Hi Bill!

Who would not?
Ever thought of lifting the vizier, introduce yourself properly, and declare clearly your intentions
before you get too close…? some education you got there! =)

Have a good day…

Lol how rude of me! Lol I guess my mother neglected to teach me good spider manners! She just taught me the squish first and then get it out of the house technique instead! Lol :D

This is one of the worst photos I have ever taken and yet I love it. The spider is out of focus except for the face and the main eyes are reflecting the leds of the ring flash. However, the side eyes seem so sad.Spider face.jpg

This adorable duckling was minding his/her own business, and I was trying to get a good angle to shoot it. I was dialing in my settings and then this adult duck runs over and just pokes this duckling in the butt... Just to be jerk... And so the duckling jumps away, turns around, puffs up and starts squawking and violently flapping his tiny little wings like he's a badass or something. Anyway, I didn't get to the right settings before that all happened - and there is no way I was going to miss capturing that... So what I'm left with is something a little bit out of focus and a little darker than I wanted and a little bit blown out on the water.

Thank you! I am glad I am not alone. My artistic spousal unit does not understand why I "don't get it." :)

Damselflies are amongst the most difficult insects to photograph. Sure, you can shoot them sitting on a leaf all day long if you wish but they won't move as long as you don't. Since they move at high speed and neve keep a straight course, it is extremely hard to take them in flight. I have tried many times without success. Just imagine my disappointment when I found out that this shot was within a fraction of a second of being perfect.Still, can't win them all.

Helped a friend out yesterday on her first "paid" shoot. Went along for moral support and got to be the second shooter (she was shooting with D5200). Hand held shot with D600 and 70-200VRII, BUT...lousy framing chopped off her right thumb. SOOC except for 4x6 crop..

I wish my 'bad framing' was that 'bad', I often amputate whole body parts, a bit of a thumb would be a minor injury:D
A couple of shots from a sequence of an owl in flight, from a day out at an Owl Sanctuary. D3200 50-300mm f4.5-5.6, AF-C and multi point 1/800th sec ISO200. My first go at birds in flight, and these were the best of the bunch. Given me a new appreciation for those super sharp shots of birds flying. Even though I got everything in focus apart from the Owls in flight, it was a good lesson and I cant wait till next time.
