Oh my... I just looked at that second photo of mine. I haven't looked at it for 6 months, and I remember how awesome it looked when I first took it. Now I think it's just awful looking, but just by looking at it for a few seconds, I know exactly what I would do differently now.

The power that is the Project 365 at work!

haha Thanks for the nice long but informative post. I shoot in RAW and Jpeg just in case I need one or the other. As for software I use CS6 and ViewNX2.

Cool! I just shoot in RAW, and use Lightroom. I shot RAW and jpg for about a month, then realized I never use Jpg, so switched to just RAW. I can't figure out how to use photoshop to save my life, so anything I need shop'd I just pass over to my daughter. I think ViewNX2 came with my camera, but I never used it. I had Lightroom before I even had my camera! (I was just too excited)

I've always been horrible at photoshop. Ever since the first version!

You can try a 30 day demo of lightroom. Just download it from Adobe. Love it!

And here's a picture similar to the first one I posted but not nearly as edited. This is pretty much how the first one came out too, but I edited that one for kind of a much darker look.

I think this one could work if you processed it as a high contrast black and white. One thing I try to do is find one thing to make the subject of the shot and try and make it stand out. In this one I see the centre tree and it's shadow as the subject. If you stepped a little closer to it, putting it in front of the sun it could work.

One thing I now wish I did is made sure the little flares wouldn't show up in the pic, they're distracting.

I thought I felt a strange tingling in my head. :p

The way I learn here is by looking at all the other people's photos and post and asking questions. I see something they shoot that I really love and then try to figure out how they did it and then replicate the technique. I then take that skill and put my style in it.

Here are yet a few more from the same night as the first few. I personally think these are a bit better, and these are unedited except for resizing.

Why unedited? You have some nice possibilities in these if you play around a little with the post processing.

Sadly, I'm not nearly that proficient in post processing yet. I'll probably post edited versions when I gain more skill in that regard but for now, I just wanna know what people think of my shots. (The one you made though is really good.)

Compositionally, the last two photos are very nice, and that's pretty much all I can comment on because the photographer's artistry comes into play during post processing. It is such an important part of the presentation of the image, you probably should just jump right in and do it. it makes all the difference in the world.

Judging by the last two photos, you appear on your way to developing a "good eye" . . . now use that "eye" to post process.
