I've owned 3 different Nikkor Micro's and the 105mm f/2.8G is by far the finest micro/macro lens made to-date. You'll have a lot of fun with it.

Thanks guys...
I have a question..

Should i be getting a UV filter only for protection sakes?
I have Marumi/Hoya UV filters on my other lenses, but since this would be used for macro, is it advisable/not?

I alwaysinvest in a filter to protect my glass. Some would call it a waste of money, and I agree until that first time something hits the lens as I'm walking. I look at it like riding a motorcycle without a helmet. You never need it until you need it, so it's all a matter of what you think your head is worth and how much you're willing to spend to fix it.

Lol.. i hope it arrives in time..
This wasn't available anywhere except in this one store..
And apparently this was the last piece. As soon i got order confirmation, the item went out of stock.
Estimated delivery is 7-10 days.. so got to wait & see!

I was about to ask where you found one. Had one been available anywhere I may have gone with that before setting my mind (not settling on, mind you) the Sigma. I would love to do a comparison some time. It's a beautiful day in NJ today and I hope to start playing with it once I get my indoor work done.

Looking forward to seeing your shots with it.

Unless I'm not understanding I see the 105mm f/2.8G VR available on every on-line store. All of them.

I ordered a 62mm Hoya UV filter.. and a focus rail...
No Velbon or Novoflex.. a cheap $25 Chinese make which people have said serves just as well as the expensive ones

The lens now is back in stock & shockingly the price is at around $100 less than what i paid!
Not sure what i must do.. called the C/s they said price depends on the market value and some crap that they don't understand themselves.
They are not ready to refund the difference or provide any compensation but they are okay if i cancel & return the product and place the order once again...

i don't think i want to wait any longer... but i feel the pinch of loosing the $100 for ordering like 3 days early :(

Most reasonable businesses would give you the refund when presented with that scenario. I would call, if possible, and ask to speak to that reasonable person with the power to make the decision. At first I would just politely explain and ask for the credit. Then I would move on to: "Hey you can either process my return and risk that I don't re-order from you or you can adjust for the new price so I remain a happy customer." As excited as I would be, I would order somewhere else if they wouldn't adjust the price, even if I had to wait. Its just crazy and bad business to ask you to return it and re-order to get a better price.

I don't seem to understand their logic.
They are quite OK for me to cancel the order & then place an order for the same product at a lowered cost, but they not ready to do anything about the difference.
In fact, i told them it's alright if they don't refund the cash, they can just give me store credit or something, but no go...

am guessing it's one of the useless cs execs... will try again and ask for a supervisor now.

With the new price, they are a good $150-$175 lesser than any other vendor here

Ohh. That maybe be why they can't adjust the price. Maybe a different dealer with the lower price.

Could be.. But these were the same vendors who were displayed earlier as well & they all had the same pricing as earlier.
Now, all of them seem to have dropped the price.

Any indicates in the global market for a sudden drop in price for this lens??

Hopefully you can talk to somebody higher up that can help you. That lens is still $900 over here.
