Good stuff Pat, you got a good wife.

I can attest that the D7100 is a great camera, you will be impressed with it every time you use it, as I am with mine.
I am still learning to drive mine, but having lots of fun.

PS, that battery takes forever to charge for the first time.

That's fantastic, Pat!! But we might have to argue on the "best on the planet" thing. Heck, we're still to close for me to offer you "best on the eastern seaboard". I think to keep peace we'll need to settle on regional championships. LOL

Enjoy the D7100.

(Oh, and btw, my apologies for not responding sooner - yesterday this thread would post and then refresh in 5 seconds, with the tirst 18 posts disappearing and "#19" of 21 being the first I could see.)

Congratulations Pat.
You are going to love the external controls.
Aren't wives great.

John, the Good ones are!!! (Great)

I am so used to the 5100... the external controls seem nice today but so much to learn.. I am sure with a few days of me, the camera and the manual, I will start to get the hang of it!! :) That and once I start using it regular I am sure those will be great.

Congratulations! I think you will be up to speed with very little learning curve.

Sick day tomorrow?;) Rain heading your way for the weekend:(
Have fun!

Yea, no sick Day... need to be here today... and the rain, I am hopping on the motorcycle and heading to midwest PA for lunch on Saturday.. I should be well hydrated from the outside!! Tomorrow and Saturday in the saddle most of the day.

Jake, I can agree with all that!! :) You were oh so right on the 6fps and buffer thingy... It is faster than my 5100 but the buffer chhokes so much quicker!! and at less frames than the 5100.. Also takes it longer to recover!!

For my use, not really an issue... but you were so right in pointing that out as someone who needed that feature would surely have been disappointed.. I do believe Nikon blew that with the buffer.. I have not tested with the 1.3 crop yet or with a slower speed (fps) which is selectable.

Thanks my friend....

Even though I'm a sucker for action, I soooooo enjoy the possibility to choose slow, medium or fast fps. Mostly I use slow, so Im able to take my time getting the picture right. Very nice you got choice too.

Ya know, every time my birthday, fathersday comes around or any other holiday where she wants to buy me something. I tell her what I want and because alot of gear that photographers use is pretty specific. I just usually get it myself and let her off the hook. That and because what I want usually costs more than what I want her to know about. Your a lucky man.

I arrived home from work today and found a brand new Nikon D7100 sitting there for me to open!! My wife is a keeper for sure! (of course she was already after 35 years!!)

I asked her how come, she answered, "Cuz I wanted to and I could"

Tough to beat that... now I can ready and post in the 7100 section as I learn to use the "beast"
