Anyone into Golf? (US Open)

I used to be a very avid golfer before some body parts started to rot and my game went to hell. 12 hdcp at one point! Best that I got to. Hit the pin once on a par 3, closest I got to a Hole in One.

I have been debating going to a Golf Tournament with my camera. So, I am keenly interested to see if you do decide to go, what images you come back with! Keep us posted.

I like to play very much. I have been to a half dozen PGA events US Open, PGA Championship etc. they are very strict about photographers. Last time I went if you had gear you were not let in unless you were credentialed. make sure you check with the host club for rules

Very much into golf, have been since I was a kid. Working as a traveling consultant forced me to give it up since I had zero time, but I took it up again last year after a 6 year layoff. Did wonders for my game. Got a nice 9 hole course 1/4 mile from the house that I play most mornings from Memorial Day until Labor Day (out by 6, done with 9 by 7:15 and and 18 by 8:30 if I decide to go around twice).

Are you planning on buying a ticket and shooting? There's an incredibly good chance that you won't be able to get your gear in without press credentials. And golfers are extremely sensitive to when you shoot (nothing from the point they begin to address a shot until after the swing is complete - you'll get tossed otherwise). Even some point and shoots are discouraged. You may have better luck on practice rounds.

Better check with the course first. My Son-in-law went down for the last two rounds of the "Masters" ALL electronic devices were forbidden. NO Cell phones, no cameras etc. The clicking of shutters is distracting to the players. These things were permitted during practice rounds early in the week though. Again... Check with the club hosting the tourney.

It's this sort of pomposity that prevents me from investigating golf on even the most superficial. Understand I'm not directing this tirade at you, but ARE YOU F--KING KIDDING ME?!?!?! What other *cough* "professional sport" *cough* requires this sort of pampering? Can you imagine going to a football/soccer/basketball/hockey/baseball/[insert your national game of choice here] game and having to remain utterly silent? Okay, there's tennis... People tend to do nothing more than clench their asses at tennis matches too, I suppose... But, seriously; that's FUN? REALLY? That's how you dream of spending a gorgeous summer day??!! I imagine if you like golf, the concept of watching paint dry must have you wetting yourself with excitement.

My wife's retirement fund is partially funded by Golf so we love it. Some of the best golf is in Alabama. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail - Alabama

The 10 RTJ courses represent the largest and most successful golf construction project ever attempted anywhere in the world.

My small home town has 1 of the stops. 54 Championship Holes

One of the most popular sites on the Trail, Capitol Hill, in Prattville, continues to get praises from golfers and golf writers alike. Golf Magazine called the Judge course one of the 10 public courses in America worthy of hosting the U.S. Open and the Zagat Survey of America's Top Golf Courses ranked it among the top 50 courses in America. The Senator course was named among the Top 10 New Courses in the nation by Golf magazine.

Really great for us. A town of 40,000 has over 50 restaurants and 15 hotels.

So the open starts today, and it's going to rain (again) and thunderstorm like hell in less than a couple hours. Everyone out there today is going to be very wet.
