Used lenses from Adorama

I am thinking about purchasing used lenses from Adorama. They are significantly cheaper. There are different grading and the lenses that I want are graded D:

Little or no signs of wear.

Anyone have experience with buying used lenses from Adoramo or Cameta?

Since Adorama checks the lens for quality, a grade D would be essentially close to new without being new. So that's the highest used rating for a lens. If you are looking at an older lens I would trust a D rating from Adorama more than a claim by an Ebay seller that their lens is almost perfect. Is there a particular lens you had in mind?

I've picked up used lenses from Cameta and B&H... You want to get the best graded lenses to purchase. Those would end up not having any scratches or blemishes from the everyday wear and tear. Just look into the used return policy in case you do not like the condition of the lenses and want to return for any reason.

I have had lenses from Adorama. "E" lenses you have to actually look to see any wear on them, and the glass is spotless. "E+" is essentially perfect, maybe under a microscope you could find something. "D" amounts to an opened box with maybe a couple shots taken and for me anyway has been synonymous with "E+". They take grading seriously, and if you aren't happy for any reason you have 30 days to return it for an exchange or refund. No questions asked. Top Notch service, and despite all of that and the low prices - they will give you 70% of retail price if you sell your old gear to them. Adorama all the way for me I don't even go anywhere else anymore.

I've bought used lenses from Adorama before and had zero issues. One that I bought was graded E- and other than a few cosmetic dings, it was perfect. No worse than if I had bought it new and owned it for a few years. To echo Akiviri, they're giving you an honest, strict assessment on the quality of the lens. I would have no second thoughts buying a lens rated N, D, or E from them.

I can only speak for B&H (i would assume that i would have a similar experience with Adorama or Cameta). I bought a used lens from them and it came just as advertised. I can say that they stick by their grading system and i don't think you will be dissapointed in buying from them or the other companies you mentioned.

Adorama won't do you wrong. As stated...they stick to their rating system. Most of my purchases are through Adorama and I have found in my case they are very straight forward about their used merchandise.

In addition, the customer service rep from Adorama, named Helen, is a member here on Nikonites and is extremely helpful if you run into any problems. So you're covered in a variety of ways if you order from Adorama.

Good point Dave, I had forgotten that!

I've never had any complaints with the used gear I've bought from Adorama. The condition of the lenses and camera bags I bought were always as described, if not better.

I wish there was a Canadian equivalent of Adorama! My only issues are the shipping charges from companies in the states. I've had merchandise shipped from China that had significantly cheaper shipping charges than anything shipped from the states. But hey.....that's just me. :)

Would it be cost effective to have one of us "southerners" buy it and ship it to the great white north?

I have yet to pick up a used lens from them, but I can tell you that when I bought my D3 less than a month ago it was from Helen at Adorama and it was awesome. I bought an E rated D3 and the thing was in way better condition than I could have imagined. Helen was very helpful through the entire process. I would suggest Adorama to anyone everyday of the week!

Just had my first purchase experience with Adorama, very pleased. It was for new stuff but have been looking at the used as well. I just wish someone would get the Nikon 85 1.8g in so I can order one, everyone is out it seems.

I have been buying used and refurbished items from Adorama for a few years now and I only had one issue with a lens but I was able to exchange it for another very promptly... I prefer Adorama and Cameta over B&H any day..
