Okay, after seeing photos of gators up close and personal, and nice bird shots, I am truly humbled. :) Anyway, after having a weekend of beautiful weather, we are back to the gloom and clouds of March in Upstate New York.

The first shot is of a crow that was walking across my still-ice-encrusted front yard. I did have to crop it because he/she would only let me get just close enough. This guy has been hanging around all winter.

To show that even on a cloudy day in the late afternoon, the sun can try to come out from behind the clouds. The bright spot amidst the grey clouds is the sun. Something we don't see too often here: sun, that is. I think we had our sun quota for the month this past weekend. :(

Fortunately, the rain stopped by the time I got home from work. It was still another grey day, though. Below is my contribution to Project 365.

This guy was hanging out on a branch of a tree in our front yard. He/she totally ignored me. This was not the same crow as yesterday. That guy was wandering on the lawn again. Anyway, the image turned out to be more of a silhouette so I changed it to b&W, upped the contrast a little and cropped it.

I am really desperate for sunshine and green things growing... :)

That is a tough shot with a black subject and white background.

I know, but I figured it had possibilities, as long as it was in focus. :)

I had to do more tweaking than I usually do. I figured it would come out more like a silhouette anyway because of the sky. The clouds were much more grey than they look in the final image. Ah, the joys of post-processing. It's a whole lot easier than hours in a darkroom for one print.

Today was one of those weird weather days when it is sunny one minute and the next, dark grey snow clouds blow in. I had to stop at the grocery store on my way home from work. After coming out with the few things I needed, I got in the car and noticed how the water droplets looked on the windshield. I had my 55-200 mm lens on my D3000 and decided to give it a try. In the first photo, I manually focused on the roof of the shopping cart return rack. Yes, Wegman's has covered cart return racks. :) In the second photo, again, I manually focused, or at least tried to, on the water droplets on the windshield. That was a little difficult because the windshield was closer than the minimum focus of the lens. Anyway, here are two shots that are out of my normal nature/pets/macro stuff comfort zone.

Today was just "one of those days." This afternoon, after I came home from work, I was sitting in the living room, and took the following photos.

Spent the day at the most useless, awful professional development seminar that I have gone to in a long time. The only good part was having lunch with some co-workers and friends. They made the day. Anyway, when I walked out to my car, in the field nearby, was a pair of geese. I did not have any intention of getting too close (did that one time and got chased - nasty, nasty). Anyway, it was snowing when I took the photo.

When I came home, I saw that my Christmas cactus seemed to be a little seasonally confused....

But I Thought It Was Winter...

While my spousal unit was at an appointment this afternoon in Endicott, NY, I decided to spend some time wandering around. Endicott is the town that IBM started in back when it was The Time Recording Company, where they made punch cards for time clocks. They later became International Business Machines. In IBM's heyday, they basically owned Endicott. By the 1980s IBM employed about 16,000 people in the area. That number is now down to 1,500 or so. Anyway, I'm posting a few photos I took of some of the buildings. I think I will be photographing more as the year progresses.

This building was finished in 1933, It was called the North St. Laboratory because it is on North St. (so imaginative :) ). It is now owned by Huron. Anyway, this is a view of the rear of the building. On the right-hand side, you should see the word, "THINK" in the concrete trim.

I just thought it was weird that on each corner of the base of the clock tower are hourglasses.

All Along the Clock Tower: Hourglasses

Finally, I walked up to North Street, and saw the 3 identical buildings, all built in 1940. I thought black and white was perfect. Gives it the vintage look I wanted.

Got to love the landscaping they did. Really makes the buildings stand out.

You know spring is on its way when the seagulls have flown up the Susquehanna River from the Chesapeake Bay and have taken up residence in the parking lot of a nearby shopping mall. There is both a Walmart & Sam's Club in this mall. Maybe they want to become "gulls of Walmart." :) Sorry, I could not resist.

Anyway, here are 3 seagull photos I took after leaving Barnes & Noble this morning:

This guy was just walking around the parking lot, checking this out.

Well, I guess winter is not over yet. We were just teased. :( It figures, though, because my spousal unit took the snow blower off the tractor yesterday and put the mower deck on today. I think he's hoping for spring.

Anyway, here's the proof that winter is still hanging around. I took this from my front door after I got home from work this afternoon. We are supposed to get 3 - 5 inches with freezing rain and ice, too. Tomorrow morning's drive to work will not be fun, that's for sure.

The yucky weather continues. That made me look for interesting subjects inside.

The plant that keeps on giving. My hyacinth has sprouted a second, be it smaller set of blooms. They are definitely not as fragrant as the first ones.

Hint of Spring

I also took the opportunistic pheline photo. This is Buster, better known as The Flash, because of the way he flies around the house. Anyway, he is totally appreciative of being a house cat.

Ah... Relaxing
