Purchasing D3200, Have a few ?'s

To be honest it's probably not Nikon that do the sales, more the camera shop. You just need to be patient and bide your time, keep an eye on the shop and others too (Adorama, B&H etc if you're the USA) and the camera will turn up as cheap as you want it for.

I have been informed by a few shops that it is a Nikon sale, and they get the kickback from Nikon directly within the sale date, and that it ends on the 2nd, and they can't help me past that. I am going to call around more about putting down a deposit, and hope that will lock it down at some independent shop.

And if you knew me, telling me to be patient is like telling me to stop being on fire. I hate planning, and then having outside sources destroying said plans. We'll see if Nikon extends the sale. The guy at the camera shop made it sound like it is likely Nikon will extend it immediately, but I see nothing online backing that up. Plus I am new to this, and I have not seen Nikons sale patterns over time. I'd kill to see a good sale on the D3200/D5200....

That made me chuckle a little - your pay date was always know, so bad planning on your part :p

Another option - surely if you've been saving up for this, then you only need a small amount from your pay on Monday to complete the savings... in which case, beg steal and borrow from family friends until Monday when you can pay them back?

Either way - hope you get your camera :)

The sale had been advertised for so long, that I did not realize it was ending when it does. Everything was going so well, I had this feeling that something was going to screw up my plans, so I asked, just in case, to make sure the sale was not dead before Monday, sure enough, saturday is the last day, I pretty much expected for something to screw my plans. I won't borrow money, it is what it is.

There will be other "sales". Why would it be a problem to wait another week or two? When you save money to buy something, why would you spend it somewhere else just when you're so close to your goals?

Only you can answer these questions but I wouldn't worry too much since usually with DSLRs prices don't just go up and sales do happen quite often.

Follow your initial goal would be my advice.

I am gonna wait till next week and see if the sale continues, and then weigh my thoughts at that time. I also need to buy some suspension components for my car, so if the sale is not renewed, I may just use the money for that. The car is one of the main reasons I want to purchase a camera in the first place. These pictures were taken with a point and shoot Sony camera...

OK, I was able to scrounge enough cash to get the D3200 in time before the sale ends. If all goes well, I will be getting the D3200 kit, a 55-200mm lens, and memory card tomorrow. Here is my question, I want a 32GB memory card, and the one they are pushing is $50. I have seen Sandisk ones from $20-$50, with different class ratings. What is really required for this camera to not hinder performance in any aspect? I assume they know what they are talking about, just don't want to get taken. And also, how well do the "Eye-Fi" wireless cards work? Thanks again!

You want a 32GB card. Really? I don't understand that. Here's a tip: stick with 4GB cards.....get 2 or 3 of them as opposed to one big card....less chance of losing a card to corruption or anything else.
Here's what to look for in a memory card: Class 6 or Class 10 (10 being the best). Stay away from anything under that. Sandisk, Kingston, Lexar are excellent cards worth buying.

By the way NFA....what part of the planet are you from? Sometimes that makes a difference in how we answer any of your questions. If you could finish off the rest of your profile, that would be a big help. Thanks. Enjoy the site. :)

I back up my pictures often (Only have had point and shoot up until now), and have always preferred to have 1 main card, with the ability to shoot a bunch before a backup if needed. Just personal preference. I will update my info if that really helps, thanks! (I am located in Seattle, Wa.)

It will only take one time to lose a 32GB card, and you'll never buy another one. :) But hey....like you said....that's just the way you are, right? :)
Here's another tip: I don't know the sequence of point & shoots for formatting cards, but in a DSLR, you TURN OFF the camera before you pull the card out, and the same when putting a card in the camera. And....always format the card IN the camera....not in your computer. Just thought I'd pass that along for ya. :)

I have always been in the habit of doing just those things with my memory cards. I just updated my info as well, thanks again! What are your thoughts on a good general external flash? And as far as losing memory cards, I still have every card I have ever had. I have 2 8MB (Not GB) cards from long ago in an organized case. I have a bit of an OCD issue, but at least it typically leads to over-organization instead of something less usefull!

A class 10 card will be more than sufficient for your needs.
You can pick up a 32GB for £~20 ($~30) now a days, so the one you're being pushed for at $50 - what card is it exactly??
If you really want to push the specs further, aim for one that does at least 30MB/s write (like the Sandisk Ultra series)

External flash - depends on your needs... a SB-400 might be suitable for your needs, but then again, you might need a tri-set of SB-910s... it all depends what you want to do

That's still a lot - the Extreme is about $35 here, and considering the UK prices are always more than the US....

...I can manually do the bracketing if I want to play around with HDR. I just need some clarity on when else the bracketing would come into play.

Bracketing can also be handy when you're in a tricky lighting situation and you don't have a lot of time to take test shots.
