Lawrence's 365 for 2014

Right I need to do this!
As I understand it I will be "competing" with myself and trying to develop my entire photography skills (including post processing).
A minimum of 1 photo per day and I reserve the right to make notes for my own benefit.
For example today I took out only my 70-300mm which I have had since 12/29. A big learning curve especially for birds in flight!
I went for walk with no preconceived ideas and the following photos were snapped on route. Nothing spectacular but for me on the day it was all about settings, focusing, composition and smooth shutter release with the new lens.

One of the things I did in mine last year, similar to you making notes for yourself, I posted up the things I learned along the way for others to read. Someone will come along that knows less than yourself and it will help them.

Great start!

Happy New Year! Good start to 2014. I like them all except the leaf, it doesn't look in focus to me. It may be just because it is so shiny.

Not happy with today's crop of images but still I did get out there to catch some fishermen on the rocks - they caught nothing!
The first one fails because I didn't get the bottom of the steps in.

Day 3 was a struggle because of time restraints. My daughter is getting married on Tuesday and I have spent the day running around doing wedding stuff.
Eventually I managed a photo - but had to have a beer first!

Then much to my brother's consternation I did a compilation using the above.

Try it again, but put your brother to the left of the photo so that you have room to catch the ball right after the hit. I would also try it shot horizontally. IF you can catch that pesky ball in your frame it could be a really cool picture.

Day 5
Photos at breakfast this morning with my daughter who is getting married on Tuesday.
She had her Hen's Party last night. These were totally unposed with natural lighting.

Okay the wedding is over and normal transmission resumes!
One thing this last week has taught me is that my photography stinks - really badly.
However despite (or because of) this I think this 365 project is an absolute must for me.
My day 6 was the wedding rehearsal and I took a lot of photos but will only post one on here to give the feeling of the church and the relaxed mood of the bridal party the day before the wedding.

Day 7 - the day of the wedding.
What an absolute disappointment. :( My photos were all very bad indeed.
Fortunately the professional photographer with her D700 did a fantastic job.
I have so much to learn about photographing people and events.

Day 11
On the way to the airport to drop my brother off for his looooong flight back to South Africa we stopped off on One Tree Hill for a view of Auckland. I didn't have my tripod with me so these are a bit out but you can see what I was attempting.
