    Z7 not new as advertised

My NEW would be the Z7 I purchased today though I have a troubling suspicion it’s not exactly “New-In-Box” as it should be. Internal packaging looked a bit more rumpled than I would have imagined and the body cap had an odd scratch. I’ve seen photos of Z7’s with hot shoe covers and some without. Does the US version include a hot shoe cover? Mine hasn’t got one.

    Re: Jan. 2020 Theme: NEW

My suspicions of buying a ‘used’ new Z7 are pretty much confirmed.
On first powering up the camera I was surprised the menu didn’t prompt me for date and time and other initializing options. Then the first photo I took with it came back with a file name of DSC_0497.

When you open ANY box after purchasing a factory-fresh new item, the plastic should ALWAYS and without exception be crisp and immaculate. No WRINKLES! Period. The bag should be sealed with a piece of tape and present as never having been opened.

No scratches are dust should be apparent anywhere and no fingerprints.

    • The shutter count should have been ZERO.
    • You should have been prompted to "configure" the camera, time zone, date etc.

Hi-tech manufacturers take great pride in having factory floors and the like as pristine and clean as possible and want their product to shine when YOU first touch it.

You bought a camera that was USED. PERIOD. Either by staff or by a customer who bought it and then returned it.

    IMMEDIATELY, take it back.

POST THE NAME OF THE STORE IF YOU DO NOT GET SATISFACTION. CONTACT NIKON AND LODGE A COMPLAINT.

You might consider a big DISCOUNT. .... just a thought ... should you opt to keep it, but only IF they offer a discount.

The bottom line, you bought as USED PRODUCT the store KNOWINGLY repackaged as NEW!

The proper protocol for this item, if it was sold and returned, should have been to return it to Nikon for testing and refurbishment and resold as USED. This store pulled a FAST ONE.

Not cool! Contact the dealer. They should replace it with one in an unopened box.

As everyone else said, take it back. Mine did come with the hot shoe cover, but in a bag. One minor annoyance is Nikon does not tape boxes, they should!
