    I honestly don't know, Marilynne. I posted this photo in a Facebook group and was given this link. It looks like the juvenile on the right. The size was rather small (a little larger than a crow), but I haven't seen many herons to know. It's coloring was very dark to the naked eye (almost black). I lightened it a tad in post.
