On Scene: 4000 Gallon Propane Leak

Yesterday the Kern County Fire Department responded to an industrial facility for a report of a propane delivery truck leaking it's cargo. Upon arrival a white cloud of propane vapor was visible near the truck. Businesses and homes in a 1/2 mile radius were evacuated, including a nearby elementary school. Police went door to door making notifications and checking on residents. It took 3 attempts, but the firefighters were eventually able to stop the leak. Hall Ambulance was also on scene and transported 4 patients from the school for complaints relating to exposure to the fumes.

A wonderful example of interagency interoperability between Fire, EMS, and County Environmental Health.

The American Red Cross also set up nearby for those effected by the leak.

Great photojournalism. You captured some great images of the scene.

My favorites are: firefighters walking out, hazmat and fire chief, EMT assisting firefighter.
