Yesterday the Kern County Fire Department responded to an industrial facility for a report of a propane delivery truck leaking it's cargo. Upon arrival a white cloud of propane vapor was visible near the truck. Businesses and homes in a 1/2 mile radius were evacuated, including a nearby elementary school. Police went door to door making notifications and checking on residents. It took 3 attempts, but the firefighters were eventually able to stop the leak. Hall Ambulance was also on scene and transported 4 patients from the school for complaints relating to exposure to the fumes.
A wonderful example of interagency interoperability between Fire, EMS, and County Environmental Health.
The American Red Cross also set up nearby for those effected by the leak.
