Lightroom 3 Question

Is it possible to isolate a colored subject and make the rest of the image B&W? The D3100 does not have that option when taking a shot.

Yes!

There are many presets out there that will highlight different color channels for you in Lightroom. You can make your own as well, though it's a bit time consuming. If you can't find what you're looking for, you should be able to use a mask in Lightroom too.
