Pretty good article that might be useful for others. I don't agree with the DNG step but everything else seems pretty well thought out.

I'm curious as to why you disagree with the DNG step? The author is exactly right, RAW formats are proprietary straight out of the camera. You run the risk of losing those files forever if you keep them as NEF (or other) formats. Since Lightroom offers an option to convert directly to DNG, it seems like the best option.
Ultimately it depends on your workflow, but if you're a LR/PS user, it doesn't really make much sense to not use DNG.
